Disciple Learning Project Name: General Instructions Save this template on your computer with a filename you will recognize, for example “Jon Doe DLP-1.” The work for the entire Disciple Learning Project should be included in this one document, the document is uploaded two times , at each deadline (W03 Project: Disciple Learning Plan and W14 Project: Disciple Learning Final Report). Follow the calendar and instructions in your course for submitting each assignment on time in the appropriate assignment. The final project is intended to be a significant and meaningful project. You are expected to spend a minimum of 10 hours on this project. Project Plan (Due in Week 03) Follow these steps to complete the Project Plan. 1. Select a gospel principle. 2. Read at least one conference talk on the principle. 3. Search your scriptures for at least three references on the principle. 4. Plan to implement, polish, and/or perfect the principle in your life. Write a project plan (500-600 word) answering the following questions: What gospel principle did you choose? And why? What did you learn about this gospel principle from the conference talk you read? (Make sure you include the title of the conference talk.) What new insights did you gain on this gospel principle from the three scriptures you found? (Make sure you include the references to the three scriptures.) What is your plan to implement, polish, and/or perfect this principle in your life that you will put into action in the next 11 weeks? A principle in the Doctrine and Covenant which inspired me, is found in D&C 6:10-11. The specific principle that I found, can be summed up as, “Learn of His ways, and bless the lives of others.” What caused me to desire to apply this to my life? It’s simple. I have been so incredibly blessed through God’s plan that I want to share the joy I have found with others. I want everyone to drink from the source with me. I want to create unity and love throughout the world which has only been disappearing. There are many steps I will have to take in order to apply this principle to my life over the next 10 weeks. Above all, before I can do anything else, I must learn of Christ’s ways. What this will look like, is I will study Him, study His life, His actions, His love, His service, all His many perfect attributes. After I study Jesus Christ and His example, I will ponder what in my life needs to change. What can I start doing? What can I stop doing? After recognizing what I need to change, I will start to act. Every day, I want to start with prayer and study. I will pray to recognize what I can do better. I will pray to recognize who could especially benefit from my love and service. I will pray to know how I can help those people. I will continue to study Christ’s ministry. I will continue to better understand the person that He is. I will continue to recognize how God has blessed me so that I can continue to teach about that perfect love. I will act on promptings to serve and love and do my best to avoid pushing off promptings, acting quickly. I anticipate that I will be challenged with my diligence in doing this every day. I anticipate that I may put off certain promptings to help others for one reason or another. Maybe because I am simply being lazy, maybe because I am feeling self-conscious or shy or introverted, whatever it is, Satan will use many tools and devious ways to try to stop me. To overcome that, I will pray daily for strength to overcome the adversary. I will pray every day for strength to master myself and my habits. Every day I will just act, before I let Satan stop me from serving the Lord and
those around me. I will actively keep God in my thoughts and pray for the spirit in my life, constantly. Over the next 10 weeks, I will keep a “Journal” in the notes in my phone. In this journal, or notes, I will write down every memorable experience regarding this action plan. I will not my feelings, my struggles, any thoughts, emotions, and much more. I will note force myself to write anything wildly specific, but I just want to record my thoughts and experiences. I want to constantly be guided by the spirit as I go, to know what things I can continue to change and better myself at. I will constantly look back at my notes to be inspired and see how far I’ve come. In Weeks 04-14, carry out your plan Write a Talk (Due in Week 14) Prepare a written talk (at least 1500 words) on that principle. Your talk needs to include: A quote from the conference talk you read, with the reference included Three scripture references Your personal story as to how you have tried to be better at living the principle (Tell me about your experience implementing the gospel principle you choose in the last 11 weeks.) Your testimony of the principle Insert your talk below. (Make sure you also complete the video report sections of the assignment too.) Good [morning/afternoon/evening] everyone! As we gather here today, I am thrilled to embark on a journey that has profoundly impacted my understanding of discipleship. The principle we delve into today, rooted in Doctrine and Covenants 6:10-11, calls us to "Learn of His ways, and bless the lives of others." This profound truth encapsulates the essence of our Christian discipleship and has been a guiding light in my Disciple Learning Project over the past 11 weeks. Imagine with me for a moment, standing in the presence of a wise and compassionate teacher, someone like Elder David A. Bednar. In a thought-provoking conference talk titled " Prepared to Obtain Every Needful Thing," Elder Bednar beautifully articulated the transformative power of learning Christ's ways. He spoke directly to our hearts when he shared the following words: "If all you or I know about Jesus Christ and His restored gospel is what other people teach or tell us, then the foundation of our testimony of Him and His glorious latter-day work is built upon sand. We cannot rely exclusively upon or borrow gospel light and knowledge from other people even those whom we love and trust." As we embark on this reflective journey together, let us draw inspiration not only from Elder Bednar's words but also from the timeless truths found in the scriptures. Through personal experiences and the application of these principles, I hope to convey the transformative power of discipleship and the joy that comes from learning of His ways. So, my dear friends, let us open our hearts and minds to the message of discipleship and explore how, through intentional learning and application, we can truly bless the lives of those around us. Welcome to the discourse on "Learning of His Ways: Blessing Lives Through Discipleship." The following scriptures expound our understanding more on this principle: Matthew 5:16: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." This scripture emphasizes the importance of being a positive influence and blessing to others through our actions and good works. 1 Peter 2:21: "For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps." This scripture highlights the concept of following Christ's example in our lives, indicating that learning His ways involves emulating His actions and teachings.
Mosiah 2:17: "And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." This Book of Mormon scripture underscores the idea that learning of Christ's ways includes serving and blessing the lives of others, recognizing it as a form of divine service. Personal Experience: Over the past 11 weeks, I embarked on a journey to apply this principle in my daily life. Inspired by the scriptures and Elder Bedner's talk, I dedicated time to studying Christ's life, actions, and teachings. This deliberate study led to moments of reflection, where I identified areas in my life that needed refinement. I committed to starting each day with prayer and study, seeking promptings on how to better follow Christ's example. I encountered instances where I felt prompted to reach out to individuals who could benefit from love and service. These promptings often challenged my comfort zone, yet they became opportunities to align my actions with Christ's teachings. Despite my best intentions, I faced challenges in maintaining consistency. There were moments when self-doubt or laziness crept in, threatening to derail my commitment. In these instances, I turned to prayer for strength to overcome the adversary's influence and master my habits. Testimony: Through these experiences, my testimony of the principle strengthened. I witnessed tangible blessings and changes, not only in my life but also in the lives of those I sought to serve. The joy derived from following Christ's ways and blessing others has been immeasurable. I testify that the principle of learning of His ways and blessing lives is not only a commandment but a source of profound happiness. As we actively seek to emulate the Savior, our lives take on new meaning, and our capacity to impact others for good expands. Conclusion In conclusion, As we draw near the culmination of our shared journey, I find myself reflecting on the transformative odyssey we have undertaken together over these past 11 weeks. The guiding principle, "Learn of His ways, and bless the lives of others," sourced from Doctrine and Covenants 6:10-11, has been a beacon illuminating the path of discipleship. Through the exploration of scripture, the insights of the conference talk by Elder David A. Bednar, and personal experiences, we have delved into the essence of discipleship and the profound impact it can have on our lives and the lives of those around us. Our exploration led us to Matthew 5:16, a radiant gem within the New Testament. "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." This scripture serves as a reminder that our discipleship is not a solitary journey but a luminous invitation to others to witness the beauty of Christ's teachings through our actions. It echoes the core theme of our project: to learn and then radiate His ways, becoming conduits of His light in a world that often craves illumination. Turning the pages of the New Testament, we discovered 1 Peter 2:21, urging us to follow in the footsteps of our Savior. "For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps." This scripture emphasizes the profound nature of discipleship walking the path that Christ trod. It invites us to align our lives with His, to understand His teachings not merely as words but as a living example to emulate. Learning His ways becomes an active journey of mirroring His footsteps in our daily walk. Venturing into the Book of Mormon, we encountered Mosiah 2:17, a scriptural gem that echoes the spirit of our project. "And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." This verse crystallizes the essence of our mission to bless lives through service. It reaffirms that in our efforts to emulate Christ, acts of service become sacred bridges connecting us to divinity. In the midst of our exploration, we engaged with the words of Elder David A. Bednar. His conference talk, "Prepared to Obtain Every Needful Thing" resonated deeply, providing an insightful perspective on the transformative power of

learning Christ's ways. The quote, served as a compass, guiding our hearts towards the true north of discipleship. It became a reminder that discipleship is not a passive endeavor but a dynamic journey of learning, doing, and becoming. Reflecting on my personal experiences throughout this project, I am humbled by the profound impact this principle has had on my life. The daily commitment to prayer, study, and service became not just a routine but a sacred rhythm a melody of discipleship playing in the background of my life. There were moments of clarity when His ways illuminated my path, and moments of challenge when perseverance was required to stay on course. Yet, through it all, the joy derived from blessing the lives of others mirrored the joy our Savior must feel when His disciples actively engage in His work. In conclusion, this Disciple Learning Project has been more than an academic exercise; it has been a soul-stirring expedition into the heart of discipleship. As we part ways from this shared exploration, let us carry forward the light we've gained, the lessons we've learned, and the commitment to continue learning of His ways and blessing the lives of those around us. May our discipleship become a melody that resonates with the divine harmony of His teachings, echoing the love and light of our Savior in a world that desperately needs it. Thank you for joining me on this profound journey of discipleship. May our paths continue to intersect as we walk in His ways. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2019/04/54bednar?lang=eng
