Analysis of Ethical Decision-Making Model
Identify the most appropriate decision-making model for your case:
The most appropriate decision-making model for the case study would be the
model Autonomy (Forester-Miller, H., & Davis, T. E., 2016). Autonomy is the principle that address respect for independence and self-determination (Forester-Miller, H., & Davis, T. E., 2016). The essence of the principle is to allow an individual the freedom of choice and action, it aids to address the responsibility of the counselor to encourage clients to make their own decisions and to act in their own values (Forester-Miller, H., & Davis, T. E., 2016).
Justify why it is the most effective model to use in this case:
This would be the most effective model to use in this case because the client
is 18 years old and is a new mom. She states that she feels as though she has no real interest other than watching tv and listening to music. She does not think about what she would like to do in her career and does not like to talk about her goals (Forester-Miller, H., & Davis, T. E., 2016). The Autonomy model would be the most effective model because it helps the client to express the aspiration to protect the independent of those we support and helping them enable them to make their own decisions for their lives. It also highlights respect for individual values and beliefs that can guide people to express themselves and make choices. Autonomy requires building capacity and skill to makes one’s own rational and grounded decisions (Forester-Miller, H., & Davis, T. E., 2016).
1
Explain why this model is a better choice in comparison to others and give examples to illustrate
the effectiveness of the model:
This model would be a better choice compared to the other models because the justice model does not fit the situation as it does not mention anything about the unfair treatment of any individuals (Forester-Miller, H., & Davis, T. E., 2016). The beneficence model is said to reflect the counselor’s responsibility to contribute to the welfare of the client, it can come in many forms such as prevention, and dearly intervention actions that contribute to the betterment of clients. Nonmalefiencece is the concept of not causing harm to others
(Forester-Miller, H., & Davis, T. E., 2016). This principle reflects both the idea of not inflicting intentional harm and not engaging in actions against potential benefits I important in a counselor’s efforts toward ensuring no harm (Forester-Miller, H., & Davis, T. E., 2016).
Application of Ethical Decision-Making Model
Identify ethical and legal dilemmas:
The ethical and legal dilemmas that are within the case study end with the acknowledge and disclosure of Simone smoking and selling marijuana to help her sleep and to support her habit that she states helps her cope with her anxiety. The believes that it helps her relax enough to take care of her baby but also states that she waits to use it until her child is fed and down for the night. List the specific ethical codes, standards, or laws you would use to determine your response.
C.1 Counselors have the responsibility to read understand and follow the ACA code of ethics and adhere to applicable laws and regulations (ACA, 2014).
C.2.E Consultation on ethical obligation with other counselors regarding questions about the ethical obligations or professional practice (ACA, 2014).
I. 1. B. When counselors are faced with an ethical dilemma they use and document as
appropriate an ethical decision-making model, courses of action and risks and benefits (ACA, 2014). Explain how these codes, standards, or laws will influence your choices:
These codes and standards will influence my choices due to asking a counselor more of what actions I should take in this satiation because she believes that she is not doing the child any harm while she is using while they are sleeping and depending on the states laws of where she is located as well with help to indicate of any are broken with the use of marijuana. Impact of Cultural and Developmental Factors
Describe how you would demonstrate developmental or cultural sensitivity when addressing the legal and ethical issues presented in the specialization case study:
2
To demonstrate cultural sensitivity would factor the information on young single mothers who have dropped out. I would look for programs that would help her further her education as well as day care program that help mother who need financial assistance. While developing goals for her future who would work on substance abuse counseling as well as coping mechanisms to help with anxiety. I would also contact the primary care physician to see to source of her insomnia. Impact of Counselor Values and Strategies to Address Them
In your role of the counselor, consider how your personal values and beliefs impact your conceptualization of the case and the choices you might make when deciding how to respond to the legal and ethical issues that may arise in working with this specific client or students.
Provide two examples of specific values or beliefs you hold that may influence your reactions:
Value/Belief 1: My belief that drugs should not be used in the same household as a child.
Value/Belief 2: The certain drugs when used around children may affect that ability to take care of the child whether it is under the influence or the abruptly discontinuousness of a drug that can be additive or depended on. Present two specific strategies that you will develop to address the influence your personal values and beliefs may have on ethical decision making with clients or students:
Strategy 1: Immersing myself in a group counseling session with new young moms and understanding the pressures and problems that they face when they become a young single parent who grew up in a household such as Simone in the case study.
Strategy 2:I would get counseling session to discover more preconceived ideas of why I cannot relate as much with a new young single mother and the society and environmental pressures that they go through in their daily lives so that I am able to
counsel from a nonjudgmental perspective. References
