Discussion Board 1 Churches have always been a house of worship and a place where the lost can come to find answer to life’s most basic questions. Even in todays age, the growth of a church is generally driven by the recommendations from currently attending individuals. As we have entered the twenty first century, church websites continue to evolve. Many realize that not only can they spread the gospel with current attendance, but the use of technology has empowered us to really take to heart the verse in Mark 16:15 “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature”. But as good as this technology is, many churches have fallen behind the technological bandwagon, or refuse to join and often turn away a searching soul because of the lack of clarity and information on a given webpage or site. In the article by Neil Patel “3 Ways to Instantly Improve Your Website Home Page”, Neil gives us three very simple concepts that many churches can consider when trying to create or improve their website look and feel (2015). Focusing on one specifically, Neil points out that simple usability is key to a website and home page being successful (2015). Many websites confuse the user by offering them too many choices right from the start. He also points out that having clean drop-down menus and task bars can help the user clearly decide which direction they want to move when entering a website (Patel, 2015). Neil concludes to us that just making the website simple is one of the best stances to take (2015). Know what message you are trying to display on the from page and through this we can greatly improve the use and message clarity of a church’s website. Often when designing a website, we conclude that more information is always better. But is that the case? Clay Morgan gives us great insight into what we often mistake as better when designing a church website in the article titled “11 mistakes to avoid in church website
design” (2015). Focusing on one specific tip Clay gave is neglecting site maintenance. Nothing frustrates a user more than when they go to a church site that has not kept its information up to date (Morgan, 2015). If we are to display the light of Christ a professional manner, then it is our Christian responsibility to maintain in the best way that which Christ has given to us. Clay and Neil both give us one simple tip, keep it simple. If we are to be the light of Christ to a world in need, it is out God given responsibility to use what he has provided us with, in the most professional way possible. Using a properly designed website, churches can greatly increase their message to reach the lost. References Morgan, C. (2015, July 08). 11 mistakes of church website design » UMC Website Tips |.
