Testing for Multiple Regression: Part 1
Using the Afrobarometer dataset, a research question was created. The research question is, Does the level of democracy and lived poverty index negatively affect trust in government? The independent variables are the lived poverty index and the level of democracy today. The de-
pendent variable is trust in the government. A diagnostics was performed for the regression model.
Cook's distance values were examined, and no values larger than 1.0 were found. Be-
cause of this, the assumption is satisfied. The VIF is 1.015, which is less than ten. This suggests negligible multicollinearity, hence this assumption is fulfilled. After assessing homoscedasticity,
a scatterplot of residuals versus the anticipated value shows discernible patterns to the clusters of
dots and a downward trend. This indicates that this condition is satisfied (Frankfort-Nachmias et al., 2020). The Durbin-Watson value is 1.554, which falls within the permissible range and the assumption is satisfied (Wagner, 2020). Based on these results, the implications for social change include people with lower in-
comes reporting not trusting or having little trust in the government. There are likely more vul-
nerabilities among people with low income.

Testing for Multiple Regression: Part 2
The
research question is, is there a relationship between the level of democracy and the lived poverty index that negatively affects trust in government for countries by region? The null hypothesis is, that no relationship between the level of democracy negatively affects trust in gov-
ernment for countries by region that live in poverty. A diagnostics was performed for the regres-
sion model including a dummy variable. The independent variables are the lived poverty index and the level of democracy today. The dependent variable is trust in the government. A dummy variable included was country by region. Cook's distance values were examined and identified as .001. The values not larger than 1.0 were found and the assumption is satisfied. The VIF is 1.015 as well, which is less than ten and suggests negligible multicollinearity, so the assumption is fulfilled. The Durbin-Watson value is 1.554, which falls within the permissible range and the assumption is satisfied (Frank-
fort-Nachmias et al., 2020). After assessing homoscedasticity, a scatterplot of residuals versus the anticipated value shows discernible patterns to the clusters of dots and a downward trend even with the dummy variable. The condition is also satisfied (Wagner, 2020). Based on these results, the implications for social change include people with lower in-
comes in certain countries by region report having little trust in the government. Because there are vulnerabilities in certain countries with lower incomes, social implications that there is a lack
of support for people of lower incomes which could result in less trust in the country’s govern-
ment.
