Professor and class, Spirituality is highly beneficial for people who are searching for a sense of security and social structure, with their beliefs becoming a strong coping mechanism throughout difficult times. Being involved in a strong, close-knit religious community can offer support, structure, and a sense of acceptance, which are beneficial to one’s mental health. Wortmann et al. (2012) found spiritual and religious cognitions must be taken into consideration with the circumstances of trauma, mainly because religious principles make up the majority of individual’s worldviews, therefore, informing their coping techniques, which may ultimately lead to questioning their beliefs due to experiencing the trauma (para.5). When an individual has religious or spirituality for coping, they can derive support from a dine being, or from other members of their religious community, finding reason for the traumatic event which can help with resilience, well-being, and healing. Questioning God’s reasoning for His actions is a healthy way of dealing with an event, even though we may not necessarily like the answer we receive. Making sure we word ord our questions correctly, advised to ask “what” rather than “why”, and trust His answer. James 1:6-7 states, “But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the mind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord” (NLT). Even when we have questions or doubts, we are to go to the Father in prayer to seek answers. Fairness and just can play a significant role as to which questions victims frequently ask after enduring a traumatic event. How an individual reacts to tragedy is dependent on whether they saw God, chance, or themselves as the responsible proprietor, as stated by Stroebe et al. (2015), attempting to make sense of what happened according to their personal judgement (para.2). Isaiah 1:17 states, “Learn to do good. Seek justice.” (NLT), with prayer being a huge part of biblical justice, as there will never be justice without Jesus at the center. With biblical justice, we must first begin seeing people as God sees them by acknowledging we are all created in the image of God. References New Living Translation.   (1996). YouVersion.
