Internal Principles Assignment PLST 205 Karla Salazar James MCCarrick December 4, 2023
Internal Principles Assignment There is a modern argument that people have the right to an abortion and for a same-sex marriage. Our founding fathers implemented their Christian believes when they drafted the Constitution and now people have argued that going against what the bible says about abortion and same sex-marriage should be a legal right. “Our Founding Fathers were greatly concerned about the need to retain the internal basis of our Constitution — Biblical and Christian principles with God as the ultimate authority.” Mark A. Beliles & Douglas S. Anderson, Contending for the Constitution 108 (2005). Internal Principle number one states that “Man is of Divine Origin” id . at 109. “It is only through the acceptance of our divine origin that man has intrinsic value that demands liberty and freedom for all. Only through the Christian world view, that man is created, that he is made in the image of God and has greater value than a rock or a slug, can we decry apartheid or racism or other social ills.” There is a belief that people were created through an evolutionary process or by accident. With this in mind, we can attest that we were created to live to worship Him and not to destroy what He has created. “A non-Biblical, pagan view asserts that man’s value is based upon what he can contribute to society. Therefore, if a baby is born mentally or physically handicapped, his value is seen as greatly diminished and he can be extinguished through abortion or infanticide.” id. at 110. This belief has led to many abortions, abortions that could have been avoided if one was to know the truth and the laws of God. “You shall not murder” Exodus 20:13 (New Living Translation) is a clear law that God has put into place. By committing and abortion, one is going against His laws and teachings. “We were created to honor God. How Christians respond to poor “quality of life” situations is often the best way of honoring God and demonstrating His spiritual truths. To encourage a person to take his or her life because he or she 2
will likely have a poor “quality of life” may be taking away their opportunity to honor God.” Mark A. Beliles & Douglas S. Anderson, Contending for the Constitution 110 (2005). Internal Principle number two states that “Man Has Individual Value” id . at 110. There is a belief that people were created with no purpose whereas in the bible it states that God created each of us with a purpose. “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:30 (New Living Translation). Each person is unique, and God has given us our unique purpose as well. Whatever talents one may have, they are important because they were given to us by God. If one decides to end a life by abortion, those talents of individuality are taken away by man when God is the only one who gives and takes away. “He said, “Without clothing I was born from my mother, and without clothing I will return. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Praise the name of the Lord.” Job 1:21 (New Living Translation). Internal Principle number eight states “Government and Law Are Based Upon Moral Absolutes” Mark A. Beliles & Douglas S. Anderson, Contending for the Constitution 117 (2005). “There are only two choices we have when we contemplate the nature of morality. Either morality is absolute, as stated in the Bible, or it is relative, as stated by current liberal scholars. There is no middle ground, unless you deny that there is a morality at all.” id . at 117. In todays society many people state “that we have no right to say that anyone is right or wrong about anything.” id . at 118. This belief has gone further into them thinking that because one thinks something is wrong, that it does not mean that it is. We see that today with some states making it legal to have a same-sex marriage, going against what the bible states about a union. “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’[a] 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,[b] 8 and the two will become 3

one flesh.’[c] So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Mark 10:6-9 (New International Version). Leviticus 20:13 states “Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.” (New International Version). Both bible verses serve as a clear understanding that a same-sex marriage is not a right given by God. “Likewise, murder, rape, racism, and other moral standards are wrong absolutely and universally, in Germany and America, in Laos and Russia. The same moral standards given to us by our Creator apply to all of His creation everywhere on earth.” Id . at 119. The modern argument that we have the right to an abortion and for a same-sex marriage goes against our Christian views. Our society today goes against what the founding father’s worked so hard to implement, their Christian believes in the constitution. They hoped for a better future and for people to keep looking for God as their “supreme source of all law .” id . at 119 4
