Progressivism Perennialism Existentialism Social Reconstructionism Perennialism philosophy develops student’s minds by cultivating their critical thinking and rational abilities. There are standards in place that students are expected to adhere to. They must behave respectfully and follow a firm schedule (Krutka, 2016). Though the course may be structured, perennial teachers allow student engagement and intellectual discussions. Early Childhood Perennialism philosophy develops student’s minds by cultivating their critical thinking and rational abilities. There are standards in place that students are expected to adhere to. They must behave respectfully and follow a firm schedule (Krutka, 2016). Though the course is structured, perennial teachers allow student engagement and intellectual discussions. Existentialism is a student-centered philosophy. Within this one, teachers discuss and decide what lessons are suitable for students. After that, student are able to choose study what interests them the most (Lynch, 2016). From the perspective of Piaget, a child’s imagination is a vital part of children’s development (Kurt, 2020). As stated by Mcleod, “children’s intelligence differs from adults in quality rather than in quantity (Mcleod, para 6, 2020). Piaget felt that kids actively play a role in their own learning process. He viewed children as mini-scientists making observations and conducting experiments trying to learn and understand the world around them (Cherry, 2022). This theory describes how children grow and learn through explorations and observations. Piaget’s theory of development stages has benefited the education community by dissecting a kid’s growth intellectually. His theory noted that children will eventually learn from the mistakes they repeatedly make. So teachers who utilize his theory will allow their students to make the same mistake without explaining why their action was a mistake but correcting them only. Piaget's theory has made a huge contribution to early childhood education. This theory serves as a guideline for many teachers trying understand and to run their classroom in the manner of Piaget. Jean Piaget 1896-1980 The sensorimotor stage: Birth to 2 years The Pre-operational Stage: 2 to7 years The Concrete Stage: 7 to 11 years The Formal Operational Stage: 12 years and older In the year of 1896, the Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget was born. He was infamously known for the theory he developed on children’s cognitive development, which was published in 1936 (Cherry, 2022). In this theory, Piaget elaborates on the 4 stages of learning children will undergo. The stages he coined are: “Children have real understandin g only of that which they invent themselves, and each time that we try to teach them something too quickly, we keep them from reinventing it themselves” Jean Piaget
