Perception and critical
thinking
CHRISTOPHER PECKHAM
The five senses impact on perception
and critical thinking: Sight
Sight is the most used sense.
Sight allows the user to see the environment around them.
Sight is combined to be multisensory with all the other senses.
When taking in information for critical thinking sight will give you all
the visual cues required to make an informed decision.
The five senses impact on perception
and critical thinking: Hearing
You are using hearing without thinking about it all the time.
Hearing allows the user to be spatially aware of the environment
around them.
When taking in information for critical thinking hearing will give you all
the audible cues required to make an informed decision.

The five senses impact on perception
and critical thinking: Touch
Using touch helps determine if an object is hot or cold.
Touch allows the user to determine force allowed to be placed on an
object.
When taking in information for critical thinking touch will give the user
a way to judge the delicacy and if they should approach cautiously.
The five senses impact on perception
and critical thinking: Smell
Using smell lets the user determine If it is an area that is safe or not
based on a pleasant smell.
Smells can be altered into gasses or areas to alert you of potential
dangers.
Critical thinking and smell can allow you to determine is something is
amiss such as Sulphur smells being pumped into natural gas to alert
you to leaks.
The five senses impact on perception
and critical thinking: Taste
Taste and smell work closely together since your sense of smell acts
like a first line of defense prior to ingestion.
Your tongue is sophisticated and can not only taste what is put into
your mouth it can also taste particles in the air that you involuntarily
ingest.
Tasting things critically is an imperative skill of chefs worldwide since a
taste pallet can develop overtime and your tongue can detect a
multitude of different flavors.

How all the senses tie together to
form perception.
All your senses work together constantly, they are monitoring your
surrounding environment and alerting the brain of situations that are
not normal.
During times of high stress all your senses are heightened, and you
can hyper focus on a sense when you need it most.
However, a sense such as sight can trick your perception on certain
elements such as judging speed and distance and drown out your other
senses telling you differently.
