Application Section from My Book Review Assignment This book is beneficial for any Christian to read and especially Pastors. The whole purpose of this book is to further our understanding of the Old Testament and give us the foundation we need to truly read and grasp the meaning of the Bible the way it was meant to be. There are so many “opinions” that Pastors or other believers go around spreading but it is more beneficial to spread the truth. It certainly has assisted me with my understanding of the Bible, and I plan on recommending it to others at Church. Gentry and Wellum provide ease of understanding the covenants which can be a difficult thing without the proper research. “Kingdom through covenant” is a summary of the author’s understanding of the progression of the biblical covenants. Covenants are the glue that unites the Bible’s entire metanarrative. Gentry and Wellum taught me that “it is through the progression of the covenants that God’s kingdom comes to this world centered in our Lord Jesus Christ. (Gentry and Wellum, 2015, pg. 243).” This ideology has helped me grow as a Christian just in the short time I have been enrolled in this class. It also has changed my relationship with God but by making it stronger. When we understand the message, that understanding spreads throughout Christians and brings God’s kingdom to this world. I now understand how important the covenants are and were to the purpose of the Bible. My relationship with God and the covenant we have together is a very important one to me. It is one bonded with trust and love. Further Discussion of the Book I never really considered my relationship with God as a “covenant”. But after learning what a covenant is and understand the meaning behind them, I see how my relationship with God is defined as a covenant. So, after reading this book, it changed my whole perspective and understanding of my relationship with God. As far as the book affecting the way I view my role as a church member, it made me feel as though I need to attend church more often and become more involved in my church community. I do not attend church as regularly as I should and ever since relocating to a new state, I have not been able to find a local church that I would like to join.
