People who are in the situation and have the feelings such as the scenario that was given
feel as if no one is there for them. God could be that relationship that is given to them to help
them feel not alone (McMinn, 2011). This relationship needs to be shown to them in our lives so
that they can understand that it works and is possible to achieve. The concepts that should be
used in counseling is welcoming, trust, healing, understanding, and planning.
Welcoming should be the first thing the individual feels when they come to a counselor
for help. There should not be a feeling of judgement when a client enters an office. If Jamie feels
safe and comfortable in the office she will open up about her situation.
Trust this can start being built within the first concept that was given. Jamie will only
share certain information if she feels that the information stays between her and the counselor.
Which is a rule that all counselors must follow is that client information is to stay confidential.
Healing is the reason that a client has come to the office in the first place they are going
through something and need support. That is the reason she says she still feeling pain even after a
couple sessions. Jamie just wants to feel whole again and not be lost she wants to get back to the
old ways and feel whole again. Therefore, integrating God into counseling is important because
when the counselor is not around the client can still go to God (Hawkins & Clinton, 2015)
Understanding what the person is going through can be a challenge for counselors as they
probably have not been through what the person has. Jamie has been through divorce and not
everyone has. Still being able to be sympathetic and listen to completely understand how Jamie
feels can make the counseling process as useful as possible. This can help with useful integration
of scripture (Hawkins & Clinton, 2015).
Planning out a process and steps for Jamie can help her feel as she is making some sort of
progress and getting closer to being better. In Jeremiah 29:11 it says, “
For I know the plans
I
have for you,” declares the

, “plans to prosper
you and not to harm you, plans to give you
hope and a future (
English Standard Version Bible
, 2001, Jeremiah 29:11).” This is saying how
God has a plan for Jamie and she just needs guidance from God to follow it.
