Strengths: Describe your strengths. I have only worked in one leadership position, but it helped me develop professional customer service and empathy skills that help me interact with my coworkers and patients in a positive and helpful manner. I held this leadership position when I was only 18 years old, so I feel that it has molded me into the professional that I am today as I try to always lead by example and be a dependable employee in the workplace.
Areas of Improvement: Describe areas of improvement.
I need to improve my approach and my communication skills. I am a very professional and helpful individual, but sometimes when I am juggling multiple issues at once, I can get frustrated when someone is asking me for additional help. I need to remain calm in these high-
stress situations and not allow my frustrations to seep onto anyone else. I need to continue to be professional and lead by example.

Improving my leadership skills will help assist me in my healthcare career as I continue to progress on with different job positions. I am aspiring to become a business development director, but one day hoping to move into a leadership position as I progress in my career. Beginning to strengthen my skills now will help me become an excellent leader someday. What barriers do you need to overcome to reach your goal? What challenges do you anticipate?
I struggle at times to speak up for myself or delegate to others as I am the youngest individual in my workplace. I feel that my direct boss sees me as inferior because I am so young, but this should not affect me as I know how to be successful in doing my job and assisting others. I need to set this aside and ask for help when needed and speak up for myself when I feel that I am being treated unfair. Key Supporters

Supporter 1. My Administrator. My direct boss
is not supportive of anyone that works for her,
but our administrator is exceptional at her job.

Supporter 2. My coworkers. My coworkers have never seen me as inferior due to my age. They are supportive of me and respect how professional and hard-working I am in the

I haven’t been able to look more in depth at this resource, but know that since it assists in career planning, it will be a helpful guide on leadership skills. One day I do hope to be put in a leadership position within the business development department at my company. Being an effective leader would help assist me in creating success for myself and my employees within this type of postiton. Target Skill 2 – Time Management

When discussing my time-management skills, my strengths include organizational skills and creating to-do lists that assist me in staying on top of my work at my job and getting things done in a timely and successful manner. Areas of Improvement: Describe areas of improvement in this skill.
I tend to be more efficient in utilizing time-management skills at work, but when it comes to my
college courses, I often procrastinate and make excuses for myself because I work a full-time 4

My goal is to develop more effective time-management skills when it comes to my college courses. I will push to not use being tired as an excuse despite working a full-time job as I know I can finish this degree plan. Once I graduate, I will be able to obtain the job I want to pursue and can start my master’s degree in business administration.

I will work diligently to prepare and practice more effective time-management skills so that I can finish my bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration and then get started on my Master of Business Administration. Practices for Growth

I can set target dates for the end of each week but focus on trying to finish that current assignment before the set date. I can keep myself accountable by requiring myself to dedicate at least 1-2 hours every day to my schoolwork.

Step 1: Set aside designated times each day to work on my schoolwork. Step 2: Eliminate possible distractions when focusing on my assignments such as my phone or watching television. Step 3: Offer myself some type of reward each week for accomplishing my goal so I can

I need to remember my end goal and that I will not graduate unless I put in the time and effort to do so. I need to stop procrastinating and making things more complicated for myself by delaying my academic goals. I know that once I get on a more effective time-

Supporter 1. Zane – my significant other. I am
listing him again as he is my biggest supporter in life. He does well on respecting my quiet time when doing my assignments and he holds me accountable as he wants me
to succeed and reach my goals. Supporter 2. Myself. I know personally, when I
see the percentage bar go up on my academic plan, it is such a light for me. I need
to believe in myself and know what I am capable of so I can develop more efficient time-management skills. Supporting University Resources

The writing center helps me with organizational skills and better understanding of assignments. This helps me as sometimes when I do not understand an assessment, I will tell myself I can just do it later and then I go down a procrastination rabbit hole. 7

Time-management skills will assist me in becoming a successful individual in life. This will discipline me to become a better student and finish my degree plan sooner than later so that I can move onto the next level. Target Skill 3 - Communication

I am efficient at listening and following directions in the workplace. I am well organized which assists me in succeeding at my job. I am also knowledgeable on company processes that I can easily teach to others when asked to do so.
Areas of Improvement: Describe areas of improvement in this skill.
My verbal communication skills when speaking to my manager at work could be improved. At my current job, I do not struggle to speak to my coworkers, but I do not feel supported by my direct manager which can make me overwhelmed. I believe I do handle myself professionally for being overwhelmed, but this unfortunate situation at times makes me nervous causing me to sometimes stumble on my words, talk too fast, or feel inferior. This is the first job I have worked at where I did not feel supported by my boss, so this is an issue I hope to overcome.

My desired outcome would be to be able to move past working for a manager that does not support her employees and not let that effect how I communicate within the workplace. I want to be able to always speak with confidence, not allowing her negativity to play any part in how I feel or do things. I believe overcoming this issue will help me further when I graduate college and move onto a higher-level job where I will be required to speak to all different types of 8

individuals.

Effective communication requires us to be confident, clear, and to the point on what we are trying to explain to others. Becoming a skilled and effective communicator will assist me in growing as an individual, becoming more respected, and helping me collaborate with all individuals in and outside of the workplace.

I feel that I tend to be an emotional person that cares what others thinks too much at times. A strategy that I can use to become a more efficient communicator would be to set aside my personal feelings when talking to others and maintaining a confident tone to show my professionalism.
Another strategy I can use is being more prepared before I start a conversation with my
manager so that I can practice what and how I
want to say something. I will also be more intentional on maintaining eye contact and proper body language.

We have had many conversations regarding my manager where he has reminded me that I need to remember how great I am at my job and that this isn’t my end goal in my career. I need to learn from the experience despite its negativity as it can help me learn to communicate with future not so positive individuals with ease. Supporter 2. Patricia – Business Office Supervisor at my job. Patricia is not my direct boss, but we work closely together every day. She is a positive and helpful leader that treats
me with respect and reminds me of how well I
do my job. She has assisted in guiding me on how to properly communicate with others and my direct manager in different situations.

Communication is always an important skill to have in the workplace, especially in the career
I want to do after graduating which will require
me to utilize marketing skills and communication to grow the surgery network of
the company I work for. Being able to set aside personal feelings and display my professionalism for anyone I meet will help me grow as an individual and healthcare professional.
