Dear Ms. Smith:
After reviewing all the material presented on the missing scope, I feel a valuable lesson can be learned from this unfortunate event. I have a few recommendations that I feel should be implemented following this theft. If we had a
camera that was within direct view of the hallway closet then we would know who took the scope or the scope may not have been taken at all. Since there is no footage of the actual hallway
closet it is impossible to know with 100% certainty who the thief is. Based on that info, I do not feel it is fair to pass judgement on any of the three employees involved. However, we can work to ensure that this kind of thing does not happen again. I do not agree with Scott's recommendation of firing Michael as there is no evidence of him as the thief. I do feel as though part of the blame should shift to the supervisor on duty but I do not feel that Rachelle should be demoted or even fired for her actions. She should at most receive constructive criticism and some mentoring on how to be a successful supervisor. Like the book, Business Ethics for Dummies says, "Regular training in and review of your ethical policies and procedures, combined with input from the people who have a stake in your company's performance and future, is essential to creating and maintaining an ethical culture."
Thank You,
