December 4, 2023 Lab 3 Part 2 K. Bragg Part 2: Critique of Some Common Arguments about Origins of Life Next, you will read a short article on how blogger from The Logic of Science critiques some of the Christian responses to Abiogenesis: https://thelogicofscience.com/2017/06/05/abiogenesis-an-unsolved-mystery-is-not-evidence-of-a- creator/ 1. Why does the author argue that the argument ‘scientists can’t explain abiogenesis. Therefore, life was created by God’ is a bad argument? When we turn to science to address one of the most significant inquiries regarding the origin of life as we presently understand it, we encounter a state of ambiguity and uncertainty, as no scientist can definitively provide an answer. In the essay "Abiogenesis: An Unresolved Mystery Is Not Proof of a Creator," the author contends that unresolved problems in science do not automatically imply the presence of a creator who provides explanations for these uncertainties. On the contrary, he maintains that these problems have no factual resolution and that attributing the creation to God immediately leads to other questions based on unsupported assumptions. The central theme of his argument is that the absence of evidence does not imply the existence of a creator who resolves all these inconsistencies. The purpose of his essay was to argue that Abiogenesis should not be dismissed as inaccurate solely due to the lack of supporting data, as the absence of empirical proof does not necessarily imply a definitive answer. 2. Why does the author argue that scientists aren’t making an argument from ignorance? The author's argument needs to be revised because it fails to adhere to the fundamental principles of research, and the author denies constructing an argument based on ignorance. He maintains this position based on the premise that science relies on empirical investigations and logical deductions, which provide evidence for the existence of the physical universe and its adherence to consistent natural principles. Consequently, science is able to establish verifiable and established truths. Prior to asserting the premise that aligns with theories of natural explanation, one stipulates the requirement for evidence of something beyond the realm of the natural world.
