Professional Development Plan Factors influencing my decision to obtain BSN One of the factors influencing my decision was my desire for a more in-depth education and the ability to practice nursing. A BSN in nursing gives nurses the information and abilities they need to take on roles in clinical practice that are more and more important (Dabney et al., 2019). These include managerial responsibilities, leadership positions, and involvement in the creation of best practices. I needed to hone my clinical and analytical thinking skills, so I decided to obtain a BSN. After that, I'll be able to take part in developing treatment programs for patients, step into leadership positions, and mentor and teach other staff members. The desire to practice in various settings was another aspect that influenced my choice. Graduates of the BSN program receive intense training that gives them a wide range of skills that enable them to work in various clinical settings. As a result, they might have a chance to advance quickly (Dabney et al., 2019). A BSN permits one to operate in a number of settings, such as acute and long-term care homes, hospitals, and specialty clinics. If I get the BSN, I will be able to concentrate on my area of interest and advance my studies. How the role of the baccalaureate differs from my current role (RN) As a registered nurse (RN), I have gained a deep understanding of the importance of nursing education and how it shapes our role in the healthcare system. The role of a baccalaureate nurse differs significantly from that of an RN, although both are crucial components of the healthcare team. Baccalaureate nurses are educated to provide comprehensive nursing care, which involves not only direct patient care but also leadership, management, and critical thinking skills (Angel, 2020). Baccalaureate nursing programs focus on developing students’ ability to think critically, make clinical judgments, and apply evidence-based practice to patient care. This level of education prepares nurses to work in
various healthcare settings, including community health, public health, research, and education. On the other hand, RNs are prepared to provide direct patient care and administer medications, treatments, and interventions under the direction of physicians and other healthcare professionals (Angel, 2020). While RNs receive some education in leadership and management, their focus is primarily on clinical skills and patient care. RNs are responsible for coordinating and communicating patient care plans with other healthcare team members, including physicians, physical therapists, and social workers. Baccalaureate nurses are better equipped to navigate the complexities of the healthcare system and take on leadership roles within their workplace. They are prepared to participate in research, quality improvement initiatives, and policy development to improve patient outcomes and the healthcare system as a whole (Angel, 2020). RNs, however, are essential in providing direct patient care and ensuring that patient needs are met on a daily basis. RNs are the frontline of care, providing compassionate, holistic care to patients and their families. Opportunities after degree completion Completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree opens up a wide range of new opportunities for nurses. These opportunities range from advanced practice nursing to management and leadership positions within healthcare organizations. One of the most significant new opportunities available to BSN graduates is advanced practice nursing. Advanced practice nursing roles include nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, certified nurse midwives, and certified registered nurse anesthetists (Shinners et al., 2021). These roles require additional education and certification beyond the BSN degree, but they offer higher levels of responsibility and autonomy in patient care. For example, nurse practitioners can diagnose and treat patients, prescribe medications, and order and interpret

diagnostic tests. Clinical nurse specialists can focus on a particular patient population or healthcare setting, such as pediatrics or critical care, and provide advanced care to those patients. Certified nurse midwives can provide care to women throughout their lifespan, including prenatal care, childbirth, and postpartum care. Certified registered nurse anesthetists can administer anesthesia and monitor patients during surgical procedures (Shinners et al., 2021). Another opportunity available to BSN graduates is management and leadership positions within healthcare organizations. BSN graduates are well-prepared to take on management and leadership roles within healthcare organizations. They may become nurse managers, clinical supervisors, or directors of nursing, responsible for overseeing the day-to- day operations of nursing units or departments (Shinners et al., 2021). They may also be responsible for staffing, budgeting, and implementing policies and procedures to ensure quality patient care. BSN graduates may also pursue leadership roles in healthcare organizations, such as chief nursing officer, chief executive officer, or chief operating officer. BSN graduates may also be well-suited for other roles within healthcare organizations. For example, they may work in quality improvement, developing and implementing initiatives to improve patient outcomes and healthcare processes. They may work in research, conducting studies to improve patient care or to develop new treatments or interventions. BSN graduates may also work in education, teaching future nurses or providing continuing education to current nurses. Model of Socialization Cohen provided one of the models for socializing. Cohen's thesis states that students’ progress through four stages. According to Cohen, all four of these stages have to be accomplished in order for socialization to proceed as intended. (Black, 2020). I currently fall under level III of this method. According to Cohen, this stage is distinguished by a more
reasonable assessment of other people's points of view. The ability to objectively assess concepts, ideas, models, and facts develops at this level when the learner begins to establish a reliable analytical procedure. Students again approve or reject notions at this point after analysis. The students, who are now using their critical thinking skills, are beginning to understand the significance of the nursing process in care planning [ CITATION Bla20 \l 1033 ]. I believe I am where I am because of the curriculum, which has given me the knowledge and skills necessary. Instead of dismissing ideas or employing some unsubstantiated practices, I can now evaluate various nursing techniques and create opinions based on the available data. I also have a full understanding of numerous nursing techniques now, and I can apply critical thinking to my professional work. Short-Term and Long-Term Goals My short-term goal is to obtain a nursing bachelor's degree. This objective is essential to my career success as a registered nurse. For improving the standard of care and maintaining patient safety, this degree is crucial. A BSN degree is comprehensive and all- encompassing, providing you with an in-depth education that will help you advance in your career. Because of this, I will be better able to understand the social, economic, cultural, and political factors that have an impact on patients and how care is provided as a result of my degree. This makes learning new nursing techniques and understanding family nursing practices as short-term objectives. One of her long-term goals is to become a family nurse practitioner. Being a family nurse practitioner compels me to help families in need, thus to me, it is a noble career. Long-term objectives require commitment, which suggests that it will be vital for me to assist many families with their basic healthcare needs. Challenges and Barriers
Nursing education faces several challenges and barriers that can impede the achievement of short- and long-term objectives. One of the main obstacles that I will face is the lack of clinical practitioners available to assist me to expand my skills and expertise. This challenge is exacerbated by the limited number of nursing educational institutions in rural areas, which intensifies competition for clinical preceptors and placements. Another challenge I anticipate is the lack of federal funding for nursing education making it difficult for students like me to afford the cost of education as resources for nursing programs are limited. To overcome these challenges, the government needs to implement policies that support nurse education programs and provide the necessary resources to ensure that students have access to quality clinical experiences and education. The key to overcoming these challenges is to increase the number of graduates who are adequately prepared for practice. By supporting nursing education programs and implementing local and regional policies, the government can ensure that students receive the training and experience they need to succeed as nurses. Mentors and Support Systems to Overcome Challenges and Barriers I have some senior nurse friends who have already been through the challenges of nursing education and practice, and they are great role models for me. They can offer me the right guidance, motivation, and perspective I need to overcome my challenges since they have already dealt with similar situations before. Another helpful strategy is to apply to my local nurses association. These organizations provide support and guidance to new nurses on various nursing practice topics. By attending their seminars and workshops, I can learn about the latest techniques and approaches in the field. Moreover, I can join their mentorship program, which will enable me to get advice from experienced mentors on how to overcome new challenges that arise. Finally, my family is an essential source of support and inspiration for me, and they can help me reach my full potential by helping me implement these
