Wound Care Clinic Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Professor Course Date Wound Care Clinic Nursing is the fastest-growing job opportunity in the country. The demand for nurses is increasing day today. The past year has been a tough year for the medical sector. One of the greatest diseases has affected the world. The demand for nurses has continued to increase, and hospitals are jammed with the number of patients. Governments have invested trillions in the health sector, but the demand for the support of medical support is continuing to increase. Due to the fear of the disease, patients are opting to stay at home and do self-medication for cases that do not need urgent medical attention. The government has approved self-medication through telehealth services. However, knowing that knowledge is power is crucial to the success of combating the disease. Self-medication has had its challenges from time to time. During the pandemic, the challenges have increased, and the government is looking for solutions to aid in self-medication. The government is looking to solve the problems in self-medication by giving nurses the chance to teach their patients the basics of medicine, such as wound care management. The use of fliers is one of the options that had been suggested. However, some have argued that it is necessary for the patients to be taught the basics instead of reading them from some instruction menus. This essay will propose that patient education and educational materials are vital in reducing the number of patients in a hospital to a certain degree.
Literature review As ewsacgew said, there is a great burden in economic health cost and care to the patients that need wound care management. If the patients’ health is no looked at, then there will be a reduction of their quality of life and increased cost. Vulnerable patients have a critical wound or those who are suffering from chronic disease such as diabetes and have wouldst that are difficult to heal. In the year 2017, the estimated amount of money that the united states had spent on the care for wounds among patients was approximately $3.5 billion.; over the last two u=years, the amount used to treat and care for the wounded has risen to approximately $6 billion. This is almost twice the amount in the last few years. The research raises concern on how the money is spent. Among the expenditures, according to gduysh is the money used to pay the nurses and social workers who help nature the wounds for the wounded, hospital beds and government insurance covers for the patients. According to eddashv , nursing a wound, especially for the victims, require skills and knowledge in medicine. The skills that are required include knowing the physiology and anatomy of aetiology and tissue repair. The other skills that are not complex are the common wound closure. Dedwh s tates that helping patients learn to care for their wounds would reduce the amount of expenditure that the government is using to nature and care for the wounds of patients. However, gedbsch disagrees and says that there will be less money saved if there will be a reduction; it would be less than a few million dollars which are not enough. However, he also agrees that training and giving educational materials to the patients will help save a coin that can be used in the development of other areas of the health sector, such as the ICU, which in the past one year research has shown that no country, not even the united states have enough ICU beds. The government insurance covers can also be used to fund those that require services. Social workers could help in other sectors. All the research has shown that despite the limitations that wound care management would face if patients are taught how to treat their wounds is that the advantages outweigh the limitations, and the solutions could always be improved to help reduce the limitations. In this regard, educational materials and patient education are crucial in wound care management for the patients. Research questions What are the effects of self-wound care management? Who are the beneficiaries of self-wound care management? What are the cost benefits of self-wound care management? What further research is needed to support the wound care management program to reduce the limitations at hand? Cost and benefit analysis of self-wound care management There are various benefits of wound care management programs. One of the main benefits is the cost-benefit for all the organizations that participate in patient care. The government, the hospital. The legal firms, the patient, and the insurance companies. While addressing the cost benefits of the program, there are direct and indirect benefits of wound care management. The measure by which cost benefits are addressed are; healing duration, wound size, frequency of redressing the wounds, and the use of other medications and treatment. All these factors are considered when analyzing the cost benefits of self-wound care management. In addressing the direct cost of wound dressing, the factors that are considered are the nursing and hospital cost that includes nurse salaries, equipment used in dressing wounds, the cost to the
client compared to self-treatment; the other considerations are analgesics and anxiolytic medications. Nurse sensitive outcomes Nurses swear an oath to protect and treat patients to the best of their abilities. Some of the nurse-sensitive outcomes that the self-wound care program address are safety of care, mortality, the effectiveness of care, readmissions due to worsened cases, and the patient experience. These are the concerns that nurses have when considering the self-wound care program and its effectiveness while still upholding their vows to support patients to the best of their abilities. Implementation plan The plan is simple. All discharging and nurses who come in contact with wound patients are to provide printed materials as a guideline of self-wound care management. To ensure successful implementation, a test to identify if the plan will be executed. Nurses will be observed while providing patients with the information and education by supervisors appointed by the HR of the hospital. The method to identify if the program is successful will be the teach-back method. If successful, then the program will be implemented in the hospital. The need theory The theory was invented by Virginia Henderson. The theory states that it is the responsibility of the nurse to take good care of her patients and make sure that the patients can take care of themselves if they are not available. In the theory, the nurse should provide education as fast as possible. The theory goes hand in hand with the program to help patients treat their wound without the help of their nurses. Executive summary This essay has analyzed research from different sources. The extent to which a wound care program is implementable has several challenges, but it is not impossible. The benefits of the program are not refutable. The limitations of the program mainly lie in the ethical implications to the nurses. However, the program can be implemented if the ethical implications are dealt with and that there is the certainty that the program will work effectively. Therefore there is a need for more testing to ensure the certainty that the program will work
