Good evening It has been a pleasure working with all of you this term. The quality initiative consisting of two nurses reviewing vaccines and dosages prior to administration was a success, yet the CFO has suggested eliminating this process for the summer due to staffing shortages. To build support and sustain this initiative I would involve the nurses by asking what ideas and possible solutions they had to ensure that the process continued. “Organizational changes in health care are more likely to succeed when health care professionals have the opportunity to influence the change, feel prepared for the change and recognize the value of the change, including perceiving the benefit of the change for patients.” (Nilsen et al., 2020 Ways to create new enthusiasm for the two-nurse program, especially during the summer months, for the nurses would be to offer incentives to nurses that are committed to the shifts. Incentives could include extra paid time off to be used after the summer, or bonuses for the nurses that picked up a allotted number of shifts. “Rewarding employees is becoming the norm in most successful organizations in the USA and worldwide. A recognized employee is a loyal employee, and a loyal employee is a dedicated employee. A dedicated employee will perform at a higher level, but when dedication is not recognized it causes employees to lose their enthusiasm.” (Abduljawad & Al-Assaf, 2011) If asked for my opinion I would suggest that suspending the process for the summer may be more harmful than helpful. I would emphasize that I understand why he would want to stop the initiative due to staffing concerns, however if he delays them for the summer, it may be more difficult to restart it successfully in the fall. It will be important that the initiative is in place when school starts due to the increased number of vaccinations that will be given to comply with school regulations.
