To improve access, Grand Isle, LA wants to develop a rural health center. services and enhance chronic disease management. Goals include improving access to primary care services and increasing Acme Medical Center referrals, follow-up care hospitals, preventative care, and community education. Acme Medical Center will provide local general and specialist care, including mammograms and OB/GYN. A private doctor's hospital and a county hospital merged to become Acme Medical Center (AMC), a 150-bed, non-profit medical institution. AMC is in a rural area but near a public university, medical office park, and commercial complexes. The medical facility and its doctors are linked with a nearby university and teaching hospital.
