Health Professional School Evaluation
Doctor of Medicine Program at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas
1.
Is the health professional school website easy to navigate for a prospective student? Explain your findings. Use examples to illustrate your explanation.
The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center’s website is easy to navigate. The website has a clean and modern user interface with a consistent color scheme and font style throughout the site. The home page displays a clear and concise message highlighting the university's key features such as “Research & Innovation”, “Education &
Training” and “Patient Care”. The main menu is prominently displayed at the top of the page, and it provides easy access to key sections such as admissions, programs, research, and patient care. Furthermore, the website has a search bar that enables users to quickly find the information they need. This is just the homepage, the page for prospective students includes subsections for costs, life in Dallas, admission requirements and how to
apply. This helps make the website very easy to navigate for prospective students and shows the website was designed with prospective students kept in mind.
2.
Is the health professional school information presented in a clear and understandable format for prospective students? Is the language used clear and understandable for a prospective applicant? Explain your findings. Use examples to illustrate your response.
The school’s information is presented in a clear and understandable format for prospective students and the language used is clear and understandable. For example, the webpage specifically for the medical school has four tabs with what to expect, the
training that will be done for the students, etc. There are also videos there to further help explain what will occur and what to expect. In the tab for prospective students, there is a checklist detailing each step of the process as well as links redirecting me to where I would need to go in order to find out more about a certain part of the application process. It also states the necessary pre requirements such as fourteen credits of biology or three credits of biochemistry. The information is all clearly stated and it is easy to understand due to clear and understandable language and formatting. 3.
Specifically, what would you change about the health professional school website information? Explain and discuss three different things you would change about the website or information. Provide examples for each of the three items/areas you would change.
I would change the fact that the medical school is somewhat hidden inside of the subsections that you have hover over. For example, in order to get to the information about the medical school, I have to hover over education and training and then click on medical school. Instead, I would have medical school, graduate school and the other schools be listed on the top bar directly rather than having to hover. Of course, this would
mean having to change the layout somewhat in order to accommodate this change but that is also another point I want to discuss where the layout is clean and easy to use but the videos included really help make it stand out. Unfortunately, the videos are not present everywhere and I believe it would really help if they added videos and visual aids
to as many sections as possible. For example, for MD/MPH program, there is a student experiences subsection but for the MD/MBA program, there is none and I believe if they
added a video of students speaking about their experience it would encourage more students to possibly try out these programs. Finally, I would include a bit more information about their match rate for residencies and what programs of residency each year got accepted into so prospective students can learn more about what they could specialize in after finishing medical school or what the average UTSW med school graduate does after their time at UTSW.
4.
What is the overall impression that this website conveys to you about the health professional school program? Explain your response.
Overall, the website conveys the impression that UTSW’s medical school is a leading school institution for medical education, research, and clinical training. From the way the website is designed and its content, the University of Texas Southwestern places a strong emphasis on its medical school program. The program is prominently featured on the website, with dedicated pages for each of the different programs such as the MD/PhD, MD/MBA, etc., as well as detailed information about the curriculum, faculty, research, and clinical training opportunities. Further evidence of the impression I had is in the website's messaging and content, which emphasizes the university's world-class faculty, cutting-edge research, and clinical expertise by using its rank, its match rate into residencies as well as average GPA and scores.
5.
What type of information do you think is missing from the program website? What would
prospective applicants want to know that is not covered very well in the website? Explain
your findings. Use examples to illustrate your response.

From what I have found, there isn’t much about student life. While the website does provide some information on student resources and support services, such as housing, dining, and campus organizations such as intermural sports, the amount of information is relatively small and very difficult to figure out without an account. For example, it took me jumping through multiple hoops and hurdles to find that the intermural sports that are played are possibly tennis, basketball and some other sports that aren’t mentioned but exist. I would like to find more information on topics such as extracurricular activities, social events, most of the events I could find were academic in nature, and community service opportunities, which can help me get a better sense of the overall campus culture and how I can integrate into the school.
6.
After analyzing and evaluating the program information presented on the health professional school website, do you still intend to apply to this health professional school in the future? Explain your response.
I intend on applying to UTSW after analyzing and evaluating the program information presented on their website because it is a leader among medical schools, it is extremely close to where I live with it being only a 40-minute drive to go to UTSW and back, is a leader also in getting medical school graduates accepted into residencies that are considered traditionally very desirable such as radiology, and I have many friends who are currently students are UTSW and they will be able to provide advice and help me throughout my journey there.
Doctor of Medicine Program at Burnett School of Medicine at Texas Christian University in Fort
Worth, Texas
1.
Is the health professional school website easy to navigate for a prospective student? Explain your findings. Use examples to illustrate your explanation.
Overall, the website is easy to navigate but it does have its shortcomings. The TCU Burnett School of Medicine website has a well-organized layout with clear headings and easy-to-use navigation menus. The homepage of the website provides quick links to important sections of the website, such as the admissions section, academic programs, and research opportunities. Furthermore, it has a link for prospective students exclusively
too and that was quite welcoming. However, it doesn’t have a search bar feature so finding certain things would take more extensive searching and it isn’t as quick as having to type into a search bar. Additionally, the website provides detailed information about the MD program, including curriculum, clinical rotations, research opportunities, and student life. Each section of the website is clearly labeled and easy to find, making it simple for me and other prospective students to learn more about the program.
2.
Is the health professional school information presented in a clear and understandable format for prospective students? Is the language used clear and understandable for a prospective applicant? Explain your findings. Use examples to illustrate your response.
The information presented on the website is clear and easy to understand. The website uses plain language to explain complex medical concepts rather than utilizing jargon and presents information in a way that is accessible to a wide range of readers. This means that prospective students going as far back as high school can understand the program
well and figure out whether the medical school is suitable for them or not. The website also provides information about the admissions process, including the application requirements and deadlines. This information is presented in a clear and straightforward manner, making it easy for prospective students to understand what is required of them to
apply to the program along with class profiles showcasing what the average student of each class looked like and how prospective students should look like at least in terms of statistics such as GPA and test scores.
3.
Specifically, what would you change about the health professional school website information? Explain and discuss three different things you would change about the website or information. Provide examples for each of the three items/areas you would change. The website should provide more information about the residency and career opportunities available to graduates of the MD program. For example, what specific residencies are most of the graduates being matched into such as dermatology, plastics, general surgery, primary care, etc. Another example would be if the website could feature
profiles of alumni who have gone on to successful careers in various areas of medicine, such as primary care, research, or public health. It could also provide information about the school's career services office, which could help students with job searches and career
planning. TCU also doesn’t provide too much information about financial aid. TCU is an expensive private school and should provide more detailed information about the cost of attending the MD program and the financial aid or scholarship options available to students. While the website does mention that the school offers financial aid to eligible

students, it does not provide much detail about the types of aid or scholarships available or how to apply. For example, the website could include a breakdown of the cost of tuition, fees, and other expenses associated with attending the MD program. It could also provide information about scholarships, grants, loans, and other forms of financial aid that may be available to students by giving links to them and how to apply.
4.
What is the overall impression that this website conveys to you about the health professional school program? Explain your response.
The TCU Burnett School of Medicine website is well-written, informative, and professional. The overall impression I have is it is an extremely professional medical school. Its design is modern and clean with a focus on presenting information in an organized manner. The content is accessible to a wide range of readers and written in plain language, which showcases the school’s value of professionalism by utilizing plain English to help patients better understand their condition. This makes it an ideal place for students interested in pursuing a career in medicine.
5.
What type of information do you think is missing from the program website? What would
prospective applicants want to know that is not covered very well in the website? Explain
your findings. Use examples to illustrate your response.
There are some gaps in the TCU website's information about financial aid. For example, the website doesn't provide much detail about the cost of attending the MD program or what financial aid options are available to students. While it does mention that the school offers financial aid, it doesn't go into much more detail. The website should provide a
breakdown of tuition, fees, and other associated expenses. It could also include links to scholarships and other forms of financial aid that would be available to students. This is important because TCU’s Burnett School of Medicine is a private medical school and it is
far more expensive than other medical schools.
6.
After analyzing and evaluating the program information presented on the health professional school website, do you still intend to apply to this health professional school in the future? Explain your response.
I intend on applying to this school in the future because it is located in an area that is near
my house meaning my cost of attendance will be lower than attending a school that is further away and it has a strong academic reputation. Doctor of Medicine Program at University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine at University of Tyler in Tyler, Texas
1.
Is the health professional school website easy to navigate for a prospective student? Explain your findings. Use examples to illustrate your explanation.
The website provides clear navigation menus, with links to important information about the Doctor of Medicine program, admissions requirements, and other resources for prospective students. The menus are large and difficult to miss ensuring that a prospective
student doesn’t accidently look over what they are searching for. For example, if I scroll down just a little, I will easily find the admissions tab or contact tab and its hard to miss due to its size on the screen.
2.
Is the health professional school information presented in a clear and understandable format for prospective students? Is the language used clear and understandable for a prospective applicant? Explain your findings. Use examples to illustrate your response.
The website uses simple and concise language to convey important information about the
Doctor of Medicine program, admissions requirements, tuition and fees, and other relevant topics. For example, under the "Admissions" section, the website clearly outlines
the requirements for prospective applicants, including information about the minimum GPA and MCAT score required for admission, as well as the application deadlines and required documents. It also uses plain English rather than difficult to understand medical terminology or jargon that is only understood by medical school residents in order to help
prospective students further understand what will occur during the program.
3.
Specifically, what would you change about the health professional school website information? Explain and discuss three different things you would change about the website or information. Provide examples for each of the three items/areas you would change.
I would want to add more information to the website about possible prospective outcomes. I understand the school will start its first class in Fall of 2023 but it would be much better if they included some ideas of where these students could end up. For example, they could say they expect a certain percentage of students will end up in a certain residency, etc. I would also provide more detailed information about clinical experiences. For example, I am interested in learning more about the clinical experiences available through the Doctor of Medicine program, including information about the types

of hospitals and clinics where students may train as well as patient population and UT Tyler’s School of Medicine only mentions that the East Texas population as well as its own cancer center and hospital will be served but nothing beyond that such as types of care such as critical care or emergency care. 4.
What is the overall impression that this website conveys to you about the health professional school program? Explain your response.
The impression I get from the UT Tyler’s School of Medicine is that it is an up-and-
coming medical school that has a lot to offer to its students ranging from research to clinical experiences in the university’s in house cancer center and hospital.
5.
What type of information do you think is missing from the program website? What would
prospective applicants want to know that is not covered very well in the website? Explain
your findings. Use examples to illustrate your response.
The website lacks information on student life. It only provides marginal details on community engagement such as a food bank. However, the any further information about student life is limited and hard to access without an account. Since UT Tyler is in a relatively rural area and so most students would want to live there, it would be better for them to talk about student life. I want to know more about extracurricular activities and social events. For example, would the medical school student’s social life be similar to the undergraduate student’s or whether there are certain things that are available exclusively for the medical school students.
6.
After analyzing and evaluating the program information presented on the health professional school website, do you still intend to apply to this health professional school in the future? Explain your response.
I intend on applying to the UT Tyler’s School of Medicine because it is a medical school that is in Texas and so it is cheaper than going to other medical schools. Furthermore, the buildings are brand new and since UT Tyler’s School of Medicine has state-of-the-art facilities, including things such as a new Health Education Building that features simulation labs and research facilities. These facilities provide me and other students with
access to the latest technology and equipment, helping to prepare them for the demands of a rapidly-evolving healthcare landscape. Furthermore, their student population is quite diverse too, which means I can meet various people from various backgrounds.

3.
Specifically, what would you change about the health professional school website information? Explain and discuss three different things you would change about the website or information. Provide examples for each of the three items/areas you would change.
I would have more information available without having to request for information by using your information. For example, if a student just wanted to take a look around, they shouldn’t have to provide their information. There is also a major emphasis on family medicine, which I am sure is one of their draws, but there is also surgery, psychiatry, pediatrics, and more yet I had to dig deep to find them and there isn’t much written about

them. Finally, while the website does include some student testimonials, it would benefit from more personal stories from current and former students. Adding more student testimonials would help create a better sense of what the program is like and what they can expect from the experience. 5.
What type of information do you think is missing from the program website? What would
prospective applicants want to know that is not covered very well in the website? Explain
your findings. Use examples to illustrate your response.
While the website does provide some general information about the program's curriculum, it does not provide a detailed breakdown of the courses that students will take
or the specific topics that will be covered. Prospective applicants may want more information about the specific courses and electives that are offered, as well as
information about the school's approach to clinical education and experiential learning. It also does not include class profiles of previous years, which would help show how each class looked like and their statistics helping prospective students gain a clearer picture into how Foster School of Medicine students look.
6.
After analyzing and evaluating the program information presented on the health professional school website, do you still intend to apply to this health professional school in the future? Explain your response.
I still intend on applying to the Foster School of Medicine because it has a strong academic reputation for excellence in medical education and research. The curriculum also includes opportunities for clinical experience and community engagement, and I will
be able to witness many challenges medical providers face and how they can overcome it.
Finally, the school isn’t prohibitively expensive and that is a major plus point and that is why I intend on applying to the Foster School of Medicine.
