TASK 2:
Based on your experience participating in the study, respond to the
following prompts in a bullet-list or paragraph format using
your own words
:
Why did you select this research study?
I selected this research study because at first the title pulled me in being that I am a psychology major. I also selected this research study because I believe I can learn some things on the different personality traits and see if that plays a role in why people interact with others the
way that they do.
What kinds of tasks did you perform, and/or what types of questions
were you asked?
I was giving the task of becoming an investor. I was given $100 to invest my money into several different trustees based on their facial expressions and to endorse them for a role. I was asked “How much money do you choose to invest with this person” and I would enter a dollar amount.
What was your participation experience like (i.e., how did you feel while participating or after you finished)? Were there any questions or tasks in your study participation that were not expected and/or made you uncomfortable in some manner?
My experience during this survey was that this was different and I’ve never done anything like this before. I thought to myself why was I so harsh in my judgement to the other participants in this survey. There was one question asked during this study that made me uncomfortable. The question was “How attractive is this person?” Hello Brianis,
Although your study is not relatable to mine I do find it to be important to educate people on respecting other backgrounds and religions specifically when it comes to their medical practices. Did you choose this study because you know someone who was denied or even preferred to take the holistic route when it comes to medicine? As it is our First Amendment right. Also did the survey questions about your religion/spirituality cause you to second guess your choice towards alternative medicine? In your reflection you mentioned that you plan to include these practices in your future and everyday routine. I find that to be inspiring that this assignment has helped you to gain a more diverse understanding of this area in medicine.
As I reflect on my study and what I learned It gave me a great appreciation for how I can become a better person by not always judging a book by its cover. We live in a society that places people in a box according to their appearance or preferences. But I see myself becoming one who can influence others to become less judgmental and more inclusive. My study on the role of personality traits on social behaviour helped me to see that your perception of people can cause you to place others in a bubble where you think they belong. But the most important take away from this is that we are all humans and make mistakes. Researches like these helps me become more understanding.
