Jacob, thank you for the opportunity to read and respond to your discussion thread. You discovered the ethical issue of medical malpractice, and you did a great job of describing the scenario, ethical issue, and how you would address the problem. In your discussion, you spoke about how medical malpractice lawsuits have increased drastically in the last six years. According to Umachitra (2021), a medical professional’s profession has changed from being patient-focused to money-focused. Healthcare professionals aren’t as focused on medical ethics and are focused on making money, despite the field they are in, and are willing to play with the emotions and well-being of patients (Umachitra, 2021). Tampubolon (2021) discussed how health care providers have made unethical decisions, whether by choice of by necessity of time. For example, health care providers performed improper health practices and created false medical reports to make a profit during the COVID-19 pandemic. The World Health Organization has predicted such ethical dilemmas and provide guidelines regarding these ethical dilemmas to better deal with health crises (Tampubolon, 2021). Tampubolon (2021) stated that pandemics risk the well-being of health care providers, which can affect their ethical or unethical behavior. Health care providers should still accept their obligation to be responsible for the patient’s health despite the challenges they face (Tampubolon, 2021). Proverbs 28:6 says better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways (NIV, 2011). Health care providers, especially doctors, are well trusted and held to high standards and a person who does the right thing when no one is looking is better than someone who has all the knowledge in the world but behaves to benefit themselves. Playing with a person’s life to benefit your own is selfish and unethical and should be prosecuted. References Tampubolon, M. (2021).
