PART 2: Overall Impressions
For this section of the assignment, you will describe your overall impressions from the scavenger
hunt. Review all of the questions below and pick any 5 of the questions to answer. Please delete
the questions you don’t choose and leave the question prompt as a heading. Then, type your
answer directly below each question.
To check your word count, highlight your response and
look for the count on the lower tool bar of the document (100-200 words per question prompt to
earn full credit)
1.
Describe what and how one of your items protects against STIs and/or pregnancy. How
effective is it?
One of the items I chose to look for was Plan B One step. Plan B one step is an
emergency contraceptive meaning it its not meant to be used as a regular form of birth
control but if something happens with your regular form of birth control such as a
condom ripping or missing a pill. The way that plan b works is that once you take it it
will release levonorgestrel which may prevent fertilization or stopping the release of an
egg. Normally after a week or two you may bleed like its your period which could cause
havoc if taken often. As well as plan b has a weight limit and may not be as effective if
someone 165+ takes it.
2.
If you took a friend or partner with you on the hunt, describe how it felt and what you
talked about.
When I went on the scavenger hunt, I went with two male friends who are both
international students one from the middle east and the other from south America and let
me tell you that I felt like I was 5 all over again attempting not to laugh. When we first
entered the CVS which was the first store I went to the aisle, and they just circled it as
they didn’t know what to do. Later they eventually came into the aisle because I couldn’t
find one of the items I had been looking for and we were all just awkwardly laughing as
we searched for the box of condoms as time went om it did start to become less awkward.
3.
Did any part of this experience make you feel uncomfortable? If so, explore why you felt
uncomfortable.
I was a little uncomfortable at the beginning especially after one moment where when I
was searching through the different pregnancy tests looking for the correct one and old
man was staring at me from the other aisle for a while. My friends said they had noticed
him looking and it was just really awkward to be looked at while trying to find an item
like that and I could see people just leaving without the item if they felt uncomfortable
enough. I was also really nervous when I needed to ask the employee about the plan b
until he asked me if it was for this class and so it made things much less stressful than
before and he even helped us finding the other items.
4.
How would someone with low income obtain this contraceptive? Is it expensive? Is it a
one-time purchase or does someone need to keep investing?
If someone with a low income wanted to invest in condoms like trojan bare skin, they
seem to be much more expensive. While there where boxes of 10 for 10 many others
where a box of 18 for 15 dollars. There were even just small packs of 6 for $10 which
seems a bit high in my opinion. if they are being used frequently that can start to add up
and some people may opt out not to buy some if it just seems to expensive or start going
for less reliable brands if that is what they can afford.
5.
Imagine you are helping a teenager to decide which contraceptive item to choose. Which
of your three items would be best for this age group? Why do you think so?
If I were to be helping a teenager decide which contraceptive, they should choose
I would probably direct them to any of the condoms. Condoms are easy to use
prevent pregnancy and STDS so they wouldn’t have to worry about that as well.

They can also be more affordable versions of birth control versus the pill, or an
implant and plan b isn’t able to be used as a regular form of birth control. Also, in
many instances other birth control are prescription or over the counter making
condoms a lot more accessible to teenagers especially ones who may have parents
who wont let them go on birth control.
