Health Care Research Proposal
One of the major issues within the health care administration is workforce shortages involving nurses and doctors. There has been a huge growth in the demand for medical professionals over the years, and it is continuing to grow. Many people simply do not have the drive, passion, or funds to pursue a career in the health care field, and this can lead to many issues within the health care administration. The schooling process to become a medical profession is very lengthy and extremely expensive. It can be challenging for the average person to balance working full- time while also going to school full time, not including the hours it takes
to prepare and study in order to pass. If there are not enough workers in the hospitals, including nurses, doctors, and technicians, it can lead to issues involving the quality of care for the patients. For example, there have been many times, especially throughout this global pandemic we are currently going through, where hospitals have become overcrowded with patients that need medical assistance. If there are not enough nurses, doctors, and technicians to help the surplus of patients, they might not get the best quality care. Patients might have to wait long periods of time before receiving treatment, the nurses and doctors might feel more rushed which can lead to possible mistakes, and more people might be exposed to illnesses by being crowded in a hospital with other sick people.
The stakeholders affected by the health care issue or barrier:
Many people are affected by this issue of workforce shortages within the medical field. With there being such a huge demand in this field of study, many of the nurses and doctors can become overworked and begin to lose their passion for their practice. They most likely deal with abundant amounts of stress and pressure in order to fill the void of the shortages. Not only are the medical professionals being affected, but the patients that need help are also being affected

by this barrier. Having not enough workers in the hospitals can lead to overcrowding, which is not beneficial for anyone involved. The patients will have to experience longer wait times, which
will only make their health issues worse. Overcrowding within the hospitals can also cause illnesses, such as the flu or coronavirus, to spread faster due to being in close proximity to others.
The relevance of the health care issue or barrier:
Workforce shortages within the health care administration is a very relevant problem that pertains to many of the issues within the health care field. This past year has been a very hectic year with the world undergoing a global pandemic, known as coronavirus. This is a very serious illness that has infected hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Throughout this year,
the health care administration has seen a drastic increase in the number of people needing treatment, which have caused hospitals to be severely overcrowded at times. It is a serious issue that needs to be addressed and dealt with in order to provide quality care to patients. By solving this issue, it would eliminate many issues within the health care administration, as well. There are so many people affected by this barrier, and finding solutions or ideas to help solve it are crucial in order to help things run more smoothly within the health care field.
The role of health care and science research in solving the identified problem:
Health care and science research is so important when it comes to solving issues within health care administration. First, the issue must be identified, and one of the main barriers within this field is workforce shortages. It is important to understand that is major demand for medical professions, and this demand is only increasing over the years. It is important to understand why more people are becoming uninterested in working within the health care field. This is crucial in order to figure out how to solve this issue. Two quantitative or qualitative articles that support my proposed topic, and an explanation of why these support my topic:
1. The first article I chose that supports my proposed topic discusses solutions on the workforce shortages within the health care field. One of the solutions that was proposed by experts is an increase in limits on admissions to medical studies (Domagała, 2018). This could potentially be a very successful solution to the demand for medical professionals. Many times, people struggle to get into health care related degrees due to the number of limitations on admissions. Usually there are only so many spots for students to try to earn their career within health care. This is an issue, because many people might want to become a medical professional but become discouraged when they are not able to make it into the schooling due to limitations on admissions. I think this article supports my topic, because it discusses ways in which the issue within the health care administration can be solved.
2. The second article I chose that supports my proposed topic discusses a solution to the medical professional shortages taking place. In 2016, Parkview Medical Center and Parkview Foundation in Colorado donated one million dollars to the CSU-Pueblo nursing
department for scholarships in order to help students financially and give them and opportunity to peruse a career in the health care field (Mestas, 2016). This would benefit so many students in this particular are and motivate them more to become a medical professional. Not only medical school, but also any schooling related to the medical field can be extremely expensive, and not everyone is able to afford that. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to take out loans are spend thousands of dollars on school while also

trying to balance their regular life and pay bills. I think this article supports my topic, because it explains how they helped with the nursing shortages in their state. This can influence other states in this country and around the world to participate in a similar way in order to decrease the demand for medical professionals.
