Definition
Medicinal marijuana, often known as medical cannabis, is a term used to describe plant
derivatives or substances used to treat specific medical diseases. They are comparable to
recreational marijuana but are utilized for medicinal purposes. The plant contains hundreds of
chemical compounds known as Cannabinoids, each of which has a distinct effect on the body.
These plants contain the therapeutic compounds delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and
cannabidiol (CBD).
Medical Uses
Marijuana's Medical Advantages According to some research, medical marijuana can
reduce pain, nausea, and muscular spasms(Luque et al., 2021). Although these illnesses may be
basic indications of more serious diseases, they are encountered by many individuals who have
hepatitis, cancer, and other ailments. This way, medicinal marijuana may be a less expensive
option for treating many medical ailments. Glaucoma, which decreases vision due to intra-ocular
pressure damage, is another medical ailment that marijuana can help alleviate. The explanation is
that marijuana relieves ocular pressure, preventing glaucoma from progressing and eventually
leading to blindness. Surprisingly, glaucoma is the main cause of blindness in the United States,
and the consumption of marijuana could potentially alleviate the condition. More individuals can
treasure their sight for a longer period of their life. Marijuana can be used to treat glaucoma and
its related discomfort(Miller et al., 2018).
Tremors, unstable gait, muscular soreness, and multiple sclerosis are among the other
ailments that marijuana can help alleviate. Multiple sclerosis is one of the most devastating
neurological diseases afflicting young individuals in the United States. Those suffering from

epileptic seizures might also find relief from marijuana. Marijuana can also help with arthritis,
dysmenorrhea, depression, and migraines. Medical marijuana contains two compounds:
cannabidiol and caryophyllene, which are responsible for marijuana's medicinal benefits.
Cannabidiol alleviates inflammation, nausea, and convulsions. It also aids in the prevention of
cancer development. Caryophyllene, on the other hand, is in charge of decreasing tissue
inflammation. It is often given to the affected body area in the form of oil.
Medical Marijuana vs All other Purposes
Compare and Contrast
The similarities between medical marijuana and recreational marijuana are that both include
cannabinoids, which alleviate sensations of discomfort in many people. Excessive intake of both
may also result in memory loss and impaired cognitive functions(Morrow, 2022). The distinction
is that Medical Marijuana often has a greater CBD level than recreational marijuana, and when
eaten, one does not experience the "high" associated with recreational marijuana. Recreational
marijuana, however, often has a greater THC level than medicinal marijuana(Black, 2022). This
implies that individuals typically take this kind for the "high" effect rather than the advantages.
Pros and Cons
The economic benefits of legalizing medicinal and recreational marijuana would benefit the
country. This would result in greater tax revenues from marijuana sales and increased income
and employment creation. The legalization would increase tax receipts and produce additional
funds. The establishment of new nurseries and dispensaries would be required to sell marijuana
legally, resulting in additional jobs and an increase in revenue. The disadvantage of legalizing
marijuana is that it would directly impact the likelihood of these substances being used by

children. Marijuana may be extremely harmful to children's growing brains. Marijuana usage in
growing brains is extremely harmful and can result in irreversible brain damage. It also has a
direct impact on their accessibility to children, which increases the likelihood of cannabis being
used by minors.
