Marijuana Reform Essay The decriminalization of marijuana is an incredibly controversial topic in the United States. Conservative views deem the drug dangerous and debilitating, while reformers suggest that legalizing the plant would have an enormous positive impact on the economy. While others, the terminally ill, wish for the plant to be legal so it can be offered as a less toxic and sometimes more effective alternative to harsh prescription drugs. an overwhelming wealth of facts that state the benefits marijuana can have medically. And even if you have not, there is an overwhelming wealth of facts all over the internet and even in news papers. Both the American Cancer society and the American Medical Association support research trials to assess cannabis 's medical potential. Millions of Americans diagnosed with incurable and fatal diseases are using marijuana to help ease their suffering. There are still others that aren't able to get help though because their state forbids it, or they are too afraid of being caught by the federal government. Although I admit that there are a lot of loop holes in this argument, I feel that I need to tell everyone how far less dangerous marijuana is than already legal substances such as alcohol or tobacco. Around 50,000 people die each year from alcohol poisoning. Similarly, more than 400,000 deaths each year are attributed to tobacco smoking. Someone would have to smoke over 1400 pounds of marijuana in less than 15 minutes to kill themselves – which, needless to say, is impossible. Everyone knows the detrimental effects smoking tobacco can have on the human body. And, although fun, the consumption of alcohol doesn't really have any benefits either. Tobacco use leads most commonly to diseases affecting the heart and lungs. A person that smokes puts themselves at major risks for about a zillion deadly diseases including cancer and emphysema. Alcohol is seen as an all Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Possession And Use Of Marijuana Possession and use of cannabis, also commonly known as marijuana, is considered illegal. For years marijuana has been an illegal "drug" in most countries. In today's world a few countries have legalized cannabis while others are still progressing toward it. In particular, small amount of marijuana have been allowed in places such as Europe, North America and South America. In the United States in particular, states such as Washington and Colorado have also legalized the usage of marijuana for medical/recreational purposes. On the other hand, numerous penalties are enforced pertaining the use or possession of cannabis where it is not legal. The chance of the penalties being small are seldom; offenders often receive severe punishments. Possession of small quantities of marijuana is not punished the same way as possession of large quantities of other illegal narcotics. In this essay, there will be an in–depth argument on the reasons why cannabis should be legalized, and why it should not. Firstly, cannabis should be legal and decriminalized since it is used for medication. Its legalization means better and higher quality health standards. For example, Sativex is a recent marijuana– derived treatment that has been discovered to cure Multiple Sclerosis (Kmietowicz 89). The drug has been used in the United Kingdom to treat patients, and it has been found to produce effective results. Banning marijuana would be a disadvantage to people who suffer from diseases that use cannabis as a Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Legalization of Marijuana Essay Marijuana Marijuana is a big topic these days. Many people want to make sure that marijuana stays illegal. Yet they do not know all the facts about marijuana. They just think that marijuana is bad. I believe that marijuana should be made legal. First of all, marijuana refers to the dried leaves and flowers of the cannabis plant, which contain the narcotic chemical THC at various potencies. It is smoked or eaten to produce the feeling of being "high". Marijuana has been used for thousands of years for medical, social, relaxation, and religious reasons. Several of our presidents are believed to have smoked it. Those presidents include Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, and many others. John F. Kennedy smoked it to relieve ...show more content... The government states that over 20 million Americans still smoke marijuana. You can say that marijuana affects your health, but marijuana is less dangerous than tobacco and people smoke less of it at a time. Or you can eat the plant instead of smoking it, which can lower health risks by a lot. Another way to reduce health risks is by reducing smoking amounts. There is no proof that marijuana causes health problems that can lead to death or sexual programs, but like alcohol, it is not recommended for children or teenagers to use. This is simply because children and teenagers are in the process of growing up, and it would not be a good idea to smoke anything or drink alcohol. Cannabis is a medical herb that has literally hundreds of proven, valuable therapeutic uses. For example, you can use marijuana for stress reduction, asthma, cancer therapy, and much more. Marijuana is not just for getting "high", but a valuable medical medicine. Dr. Gabriel Nahas, who made totally false statistics and studies, was very biased and unscientific. He was even fired by the National Institute of Health and the NIH told the public his studies were meaningless. For one experiment, he suffocated a monkey for 5 minutes at a time, using way more smoke than the average marijuana user inhales in an entire lifetime. The other studies were lacking controls and produced results which cannot be Get more content on StudyHub.Vip
Legalize The Weed Essay Marijuana is the flower of the cannabis plant, and if smoked, gives the smoker an euphoric high, but really has much more to offer than just the high. Using marijuana and the growing of hemp are presently illegal in the United States, with the exception of medicinal uses in some states. The legalization of marijuana has many advantages including for simple personal enjoyment , the usage of hemp and its by–products, and medicinal purposes. Why should marijuana be illegal when people just use it to help themselves enjoy their lives more? Tobacco and alcohol are both used, and abused for the same reasons, but with many more negative side effects than pot. The oil from hemp seeds has the highest percentage of essential fatty acids and the lower percentage of saturated fats than any food, and also is second only to soy in protein content. Steps are being made to at least legalize the use of hemp, for there are really no disadvantages in growing it. "In 1996, politicians in four states introduced legislation allowing for domestic hemp cultivation and by legislative session's end, both Hawaii and Vermont had passed measures promoting industrial hemp research." (NORML, 1). Marijuana is now legal for medicinal purposes due to Proposition 215 in California, and Proposition 200 in Arizona. Legalizing Marijuana Essay According to Bernie Sanders, "It is time to tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol. It is time to end the arrest of so many people and the destruction of so many lives for possessing marijuana". Cannabis is considered to be an illegal drug but is used for medical purpose. 587,700 people were arrested for marijuana in 2016. More people always get arrested for marijuana than other crimes like rape, murder, or robbery. This argument is important because marijuana is considered a "gateway drug," which has not been scientifically proven. Marijuana or Cannabis is a hallucinogenic drug that contains a very high amount of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). It can be used for both medical and recreational reasons, but it is currently illegal in most states in this country. This drug has been illegal for the majority of this country's history, and just recently several states like Washington, California, and New York have passed laws so that people with medical issues are able to consume this drug for their own medical needs There have been many political controversies over whether or not the drug should be legalized for both recreational and medical ...show more content... According to Jessica Atkins many crimes in several states are increasing due to the "selling and possession" of the substance. Atkins also pointed out that marijuana is a "natural herb" and it is extremely less dangerous than any other illegal substance. Dr. Melanie Dreher conducted many experiments and has inferred that children who are born to marijuana consuming parents show no factors of birth defects, also the child tends to be more intelligent than children not born to marijuana consuming parents. There is also a lot of benefits towards consuming medical marijuana also, it can benefit anyone who has a mental illness and could also help a woman's pregnancy with decreasing the sense of nausea and vomiting. Argument For The Legalization Of Marijuana Beginning in 1990s, the famous plant known as cannabis has increased its popularity among adults and teenagers, while still being both researched and labeled by the Controlled Substances Act in 1970 as a highly addictive drug with no known medical use. Yet, marijuana has gained popularity among U.S. citizens and calls for legalizing it has finally come. However, no one seems to be terrified from the consequences of using pot. They label it as "harmless plant" with great use for patients. Therefore, we debunk those claims and side with the non–legalization side, for the good of this country's future generations. Marijuana was only used as an agent for achieving euphoria since 2737 B.C. among the Chinese. Today, teenagers obtain marijuana to get high, unaware of the results of smoking pot that can happen instantly. Both marijuana and alcohol cause unbalance to the human body. Any person smoking it cannot control his/her movement or thinking process, lowering the reaction time and making it extremely dangerous for drivers and learners in school. This is due of the presence of THC, the main chemical in pot that interferes with our brain function and acts as a powerful psychoactive. Other deadly instantaneous effects are increased heartbeat, leading to a risk of heart attack. ...show more content... Data suggests that 62% of adults who used pot before 15 went on to use cocaine, 9% of the same group used heroin at least once, but astoundingly 54% of the group used prescription drugs in nonmedical ways to achieve euphoria. Thinking about our younger generation, this can be a serious issue for both our society and our economy. By not preparing to block any possible dangers from our children, the country would have a hard time finding adults capable of working, thus destroying our Get more content on StudyHub.Vip

Ethical Issues Of Legalizing Marijuana The legalization of cannabis, much better known as marijuana, is one of the most controversially discussed issues in our country today. Marijuana has many specific medical benefits and is a better alternative to other medications already permitted for medical use. In 2012, two states legalized marijuana for recreational use. An additional 18 states, plus the District of Columbia, had already legalized medical marijuana. Even though marijuana is still illegal at the Federal level, President Barack Obama said very clearly that his administration will not seek to enforce the law in states that have deemed cannabis legal. The Legalization Of Marijuana Should Be Legal Abstract: In the United States the legalization of marijuana has been one of the most controversial topics around the country. It is controversial to many people because under federal law the drug "marijuana" is illegal. However due to the positive medical purposes of the drug, under state law marijuana is legal in certain states either medically or recreationally. When you look back at this history of our country, we have been through many periods of growth, expansion, and prohibition. Topics such as the legalization of alcohol, and gay marriage have similarities with the legalization of marijuana because of the simple fact that these changes in society impact the way individuals live their lives. The benefits that this drug can bring to the country have sparked some interest from different scholars studying the topic. However, the negatives influences of the drug have brought up arguments that go against the legalization of marijuana. These issues with the drug can ultimately lead to major health issues, and more adolescent usage.
