Reaching Out for a Solution Julio Martinez South University NSG 4068—Trends in Healthcare Policy Professor Wise Mary December 21, 2023
Reaching Out for a Solution A scenario may be examined to identify the key actors and people who might have an influence on a policy goal using political analysis. The initial stage in political analysis is to identify and characterize the existing issue. This is followed by the implementation of initiatives aimed at altering the chosen policy. A solution can only be reached by using many power sources to push a cause via the legislative process. The case study's issues seem to stem from a lack of preparation on the side of individuals in charge of offering emergency aid (Selg & Ventsel, 2020) . That means that prior to the school-sponsored sporting event involving kids, all of the emergency and first aid supplies would have been available to the instructors or individuals overseeing events during the games. What is the issue? A spectator had a sudden cardiac arrest, but the automated external defibrillator (AED) was stashed away in the custodial closet and was not immediately accessible. This is the immediate concern. This is problematic because, in an emergency, people should be able to use AEDs in publicly accessible public areas to prevent depriving those who need them of them for a lengthy period of time. An AED will walk someone through the steps required to save lives even if they lack medical knowledge. A considerable improvement in the likelihood of surviving a cardiac arrest occurs when the time interval between collapse and shock is less than three minutes (Lampert, 2020) . Because of this, many individuals may die from a heart attack if the AED cannot be quickly recovered. Is it my issue, and can I solve it?
In addition to creating emergency care plans for students with special needs, school nurses also complete individualized healthcare plans, create school health policies, provide preventive services, administer vaccinations, ensure that records are accurate, complete exams, treat illnesses and injuries, and report infectious diseases. In order to enhance school health and offer appropriate interventions, the nurse must be instrumental in identifying a practical solution to this issue. Since the AED has already been acquired, the most costly aspect of this endeavor deciding where to place it should not be too tough (Kovic et al., 2019) . That will resolve the matter. Is this the real issue or merely a symptom of a larger one? This is a stand-alone problem, not a part of a larger problem, because lives are at stake in its resolution. Does it need an immediate solution, or can it wait? The American Heart Association estimates that in 90% of instances outside of hospitals in the United States, fatal cardiac arrests occur. Considering the startlingly high known fatality rates, we need to find a solution quickly to guarantee the safety of the students, instructors, and guests. Is it likely to go away by itself? Should prompt action be neglected, there's a chance that a comparable circumstance may recur and have more dire consequences. You may inspire other local

institutions to follow suit and make the area safer overall by getting engaged while it is still fresh and current in people's memory. Can I risk ignoring it? Ignoring this issue would be careless on the part of the school nursing profession as well as this productive member of the community. Ignoring the pressing need to handle this issue right away might have serious consequences down the road if the problem reappears. What are the possible solutions? Are there risks to these solutions? The school will relocate the AED to a more practical location, instruct staff on the importance of not moving or covering up such a crucial piece of equipment, and encourage the usage of AEDs and CPR in the community to increase awareness of this issue. Because of its greater accessibility, the only real risk connected to these solutions is the increased likelihood of AED theft. However, since schools are guarded during the day, there shouldn't be many chances of an incident happening during regular business hours since staff members would be present at all times. Alternatively, if you choose to take no action at all and conceal the object, the same circumstance may recur and result in irreversible harm (Kovic et al., 2019) . Giving access keys to the AED to all coaches and staff members is another alternative, but it carries more risk due to the three-minute window after a fall in which the AED cannot be used, which might have the same detrimental consequences. What steps would you need to take to solve the issue?
You must first describe the problem, its cause, the present situation, and any pertinent background information before you can suggest a remedy. The identification of any obstacles or potential stakeholders is the next step in fixing this challenge. After that, you would gather the relevant networks or groups and use your power to discuss the importance of finding a solution to this problem and the resources needed to effect this change (Jules-Rosette & Osborn, 2020) . Does anyone else at the school need to be involved in the solution? Students, parents, and community members should collaborate with the school's administration, staff, and council of education to find a solution. By including all of these parties, the school and community will find it simpler to implement these changes, and the kids will be more equipped to help those in need in the future (Jules-Rosette & Osborn, 2020) . Where is the power leverage in the school to reach the preferred solution? Although individual sources of power may vary and be limited, the collective ability to discover a solution to a problem is enhanced when they are coupled with those of a team that supports diverse sources of power. Two instances of individuals who rightfully occupy positions of power due to their job are the principal and the members of the school board. Given that the school nurse possesses the necessary medical and nursing expertise to resolve this issue, she is a shining example of a specialist with information power (Selg & Ventsel, 2020) . To tackle this problem, the nurse may also use persuasive strategies based on her expertise and other people's confidence.
Because of their authority, understanding of medicine, evaluation abilities, and connections to a wider network of healthcare experts, nurses become excellent candidates for enacting new laws and supporting its draft. Maintaining this skill set might help nurses provide better care and achieve better results for patients, which could benefit institutions as well as the country as a whole. Conclusion Since crises can occur at any moment at a high school, a thorough emergency plan must be put in place, and everyone who may be affected teachers, students, and the school nurse needs to be prepared. Because ignoring the issue might compromise their success at the high school they support, the case study's school nurse is unable to ignore it. Consequently, it is the school nurse's duty to address the issue of insufficient emergency readiness, which calls for investment of both time and resources (Kovic et al., 2019) . The money needed to purchase the emergency plan's materials, which would include first aid kits and AEDs among many other items, would also come from the school administration. That is the professional authority that the school nurse possesses.
