How you would respond if you worked in his medical practice?
I am so disappointed that Dr. Fata got away with this for so long, and how many healthy people were impacted on this devastating situation. It breaks my heart hearing the victim's stories, my heart goes out to all of them. This is even more devasting to think that they put their trust in Dr. Fata, and their lives were in his hands and for him to misdiagnose terminal illness to a healthy patient for more money is just awful. I am sure the patient is already scared enough at that point and willing to do anything to get treated and follow the doctor’s order. He violated everyone's trust. While I was doing my
research according to cancervic.org, Chemotherapy can cause a lot of side effects such
as fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, bowel issues such as constipation or diarrhea, hair loss, mouth sores, skin, and nail problems. It can also kill healthy cells in the body such as blood cells, skin cells, and cells in the stomach. So, I can only imagine how devastating it can be from being healthy and then feeling unhealthy after receiving chemo treatment. It even crazy to think this non practiced doctor spent a little over a decade in school just to slowly kill people. If I were working in his practice, I would ask several questions asking him what he found that diagnosed the illness and I would let the patient know to get a second opinion from another provider if the patient does not feel the diagnosis is accurate. Also, if I noticed a pattern of people being diagnosed by the same illness, I would inform somebody to further investigate. I feel Dr. Fata should've recieved the maximum sentence. The poor man who lost his teeth can never get that back and has to live with that for the rest of his life.
