Mock Code PRRC Building 403 1 st Floor January 18, 2023 (Dayshift) Description: Veteran was found unresponsive, gasping, with bluish/greyish skin outside of PRRC. PRRC RN’s called for medical emergency and sent staff for the crash cart. Rescue breathing was started, Narcan administered x2, IV started, AED pads placed. Strengths: PRRC RN quickly recognized patient needed assistance and called for medical emergency Crash cart was quickly sent for Narcan was administered quickly Weaknesses: One of the PRRC RN’s was unsure of how to call for a medical emergency Staff didn’t check a blood sugar NRB was setup first, Veteran was gasping and barely breathing, rescue breaths with BVM was indicated Defib was switched into manual mode without an ACLS provider nearby to operate it Systems Issues: Staff expressed concern that the overhead announcement for medical emergency was quiet in 403B, 405, and 406A. Education: Reeducated all staff present how to call medical emergency Reeducated to check blood sugar on all unresponsive persons Reeducated that rescue breaths should be initiated in situations with bradypnea. Reeducated that R-series defib units should only be switched to manual mode by an ACLS provider. If a blood pressure is needed prior to an ACLS provider arriving, then the manual BP cuff and disposable stethoscope should be utilized. Recommendation: Overhead speaker volume be assessed facility wide
