Unit 4 Assignment 2 – Mercury Best Practices (10 pts)
Directions:
In Unit 4, you read about the types of best management practices for working with
amalgam that contains mercury. In this assignment, you will have the opportunity to reflect on
these practices so that you are able to understand them when you work in the lab and clinical
setting at Herzing University as well as in your dental practices. Following these best practices is
the law in many states and it is essential in being a responsible member of the dental
profession.
In the following chart, you will find five of the best practices listed that you read about.
Your
assignment is to explain the process or characteristics of that best practice, be thorough and
concise in your answers.
You will be awarded 2 points for each response.
Best Practice for Handling Mercury Amalgam
Description/Process/Characteristics
Amalgam Capsules
You can store in the capsules in wide-mouthed
containers in a range of sizes. Make sure the
containers are marked and labeled correctly. It
should be marked “Amalgam capsule waste for
recycling”. The containers must have a well-sealed
lid. You must send the container to the recycler
when it is full.
Disposable Chairside Traps
You must open the chairside unit to reveal the
traps. When you are removing the traps, you put it
into a wide-mouthed container. The container
must be airtight and labeled as “Contact amalgam
waste for recycling”. Some traps that are for
hygiene only, can be placed into a regular garbage.
Make sure the lid is fully sealed and when it is full,
you can send it to a recycler.
Reusable Chairside Traps
The traps are also located in the chairside units,
you must open it to reveal the traps. You can
remove the traps and throw the contents in a
container. Make sure the container is marked
“contact amalgam waste for recycling”. The lid
must be fully sealed and when it is filled, send it a
recycler. Always replace the traps in the chairside
unit. However, don’t rinse the trap under running
water since the amalgam contents can enter the
stream.
Vacuum Pump Filters
When you are changing the filters, change it
according to the manufacturer’s recommended
schedule. After removing the filters, you can place
it in a fully sealed container. Also, place it back into
the box that it came with. When the box is full,
recycle the filters.
Line Cleaners
It uses nonbleach and nonchlorine line cleaners.
These cleaners will decrease the amalgam
dissolution. It removes the debris that accumulate
in the lines.

A Team of Engineers asked for an internal combustion engine to use it in a designed car. Your role is to describe the operation sequence of different types of available engines, explain their mechanical efficiency, and deliver a detailed technical report to show your approach in solving and discussing the following tasks and issues.
You must follow the following steps to help the team:
STEP 1
Describe the operational sequence of four-stroke spark ignition and four-stroke compression ignition engines with the aid of sketches by constructing simple sketch representing the operation and plotting the P-V diagrams for each process during the cycle to show the following:
The input and output heat and net output work
The expansion and compression strokes
The air-fuel mixture intake and exhaust gasses
The spark plug when it is in the active mode
The complete cycle of ideal Otto and Diesel cycles that shows the input and output heat and net output work.
STEP 2
Explain the mechanical…

Assignment 1: TIME VALUE OF MONEY
Objective: To further understand the concept of the time value of money.
INSTRUCTIONS:
In each problem,
a. Translate data given in problems into their respective graphical representations - i.e. draw
the correct cash flow diagram.
b. Write down all pertinent given information or data on your paper.
c. Calculate answers correctly.
3. A certain college graduate, Sallie Evans, has $24,000 in student-loan debt at the end of
her college career. The interest rate on this debt is 0.75% per month. If monthly payments
on this loan are $432.61, how many months will it take for Sallie to repay the entire loan?

Shipra Manufacturing Company is thinking about development of a strong charge producing measure by adding one-ton limit during heaters. Each clump (one ton) of charge should go through 30 minutes of heater time, including stack and dump tasks. In any case, the heater potential use factor is just 80% because of stream limitations in different pieces of the framework. Required yield for the new design is to be 16 tons for each shift (8 hours). Plant (framework) proficiency is assessed at 50% of limit.
(a) Determine the quantity of heaters required. (b) Estimate the percent of time the heaters will be inactive.

Case Study – The New Engineer
Jeff was just hired by GSI, Inc. to be their Environmental and Safety Coordinator. This is Jeff's first position after completing his engineering degree. He had taken a course in safety engineering as part of his studies and felt confident that he could handle the job.
Management at GSI, Inc. has assured him that they are committed to maintaining a safe workplace. They have never had an individual dedicated to this task full-time. They will implement his recommendations if he can justify them.
As Jeff begins to get familiar with the operations, he spends considerable time on the production floor. He notices workers clean their tools before break with a liquid from an unmarked 55-gallon drum. They also use this liquid to clean residue from their skin. They use paper towels to dry their tools and hands, throw these towels in the trash, and head to the break room for a snack and/or smoke.
In talking with the workers, Jeff learns of some of…

9. If machine parts are degreased by means of kerosene as shown in the diagram,
how much kerosene make-up is needed per day? How much kerosene has to enter
the degreasing vat per day? There are about 3 lb of grease per 100 lb of machine
parts, and 60 tons of machine parts are processed each day. Five thousand pounds
of kerosene (the 10% solution) are carried away by the machine parts each day
but drip off and are caught and put back in the degreasing vat. Two hundred
pounds of the 10% solution are lost each day from the vat by evaporation, spillage,
or by being carried away.

Tire manufacturers recommend that you check your tire pressure monthly to avoid unnecessary tire wear and enhance safety. This is best done when the tires are cold meaning; the car has not been driven for at least 2 hours. Since you leave for work before the sun comes up you decide to inflate your tires to the recommended pressure right after you get home from work in the afternoon when the tires are still warm. What would you find if you rechecked your tire pressure after the tires have cooled down?
A.Tire pressure has decreased because there is a decrease in kinetic energy of themolecules resulting in more collisions with the inside walls of the tire thusincreasing the pressure inside the tire.
B.Tire pressure has increased because there is a decrease in kinetic energy of the molecules resulting in fewer collisions with the inside walls of the tire thus decreasing the pressure inside the tire.
