Explain two rules that apply to carrying cargo in the passenger compartments for carriers flying under Part 121. What is the rule and why does it matter?
CFR §121.285 restricts storing cargo in the passenger compartment except under certain conditions. It states that cargo can be stored in designated bins, as long as the bins can withstand a certain load factor, is fully enclosed, fire resistant, and other specifics. Cargo may also be carried in the passenger compartment if it is behind a bulkhead or divider and is properly secured. Part 121.285 is important because it prevents passengers from being injured by cargo shifting, falling, or moving through the air. It also helps to keep the aircraft’s weight balanced. 14 CFR §25.855 gives specifics of cargo and baggage storage compartments, which are located in the passenger compartment of the aircraft. These specifics include necessary testing and structure of the bins, including how they are built, how strong they are, and the prevention of fire hazards. This regulation also prevents passengers from being injured by cargo stored in the bins and assists with the aircraft’s weight and balance. 2.

These classifications are for fire detection and prevention:

Can carry passengers and cargo. All compartments must be able to be accessed by a fire extinguisher. When in use,
no smoke, or other hazardous material can enter the areas where crewmembers are stationed. Separate smoke detectors or fire detector systems must be in place to alert the pilot. C-
Can carry passengers and cargo. Separate smoke detectors or fire detector systems must be in place to alert the pilot. There must also be a built in fire extinguishing system that the pilot controls. Ventilation must be controllable to control smoke or other hazardous material in the air. D- N/a
E-
Cargo only. Separate smoke detectors or fire detector systems must be in place to alert the pilot. Ventilation must be controllable to control smoke or other hazardous material in the air. Crew emergency exits must always be accessible. 5.
A cockpit voice recorder must be designed and installed in a manner that it can record what information?
Communications and noises from the aircraft are recorded. All voice communications will be recorded, including those transmitted from or received by the aircraft via radio, communications between crewmembers, communications using the interphone system, signals identifying navigation or approach aids that are transmitted over a headset/speaker, and communications over the passenger loudspeaker
