The Powhatan of the Eastern
Woodlands
ENG/HI:
The students will
read historical fiction stories
that surround the life of the
Powhatan Native Americans.
ENG/L/R/W
: Students will
begin to write their very own
fiction stories to be bound into
book form. They will begin
the prewriting phase by
deciding what their characters
are, conflict, solution, and
theme of their story will be.
Also, they will begin writing
their rough drafts on loose
leaf notebook paper. The
stories that students will write
are required to be a minimum
20 pages long, with each page
having detailed pictures, and
neat handwriting.
EVAL:
The teacher will
collect the students prewriting
and rough drafts, even if not
finished, to ensure that
grammar, spelling, and other
requirements are met during
the writing process.
M/CC:
The teacher will
assign a partnered activity in
which they have to count how
many pencils, crayons,
markers, and glue sticks each
of them have. Once the
students count those school
supplies, they will create a bar
graph that shows how much
of each supply they have.
M/T/CT
: Students will
complete IXL codes R.5, R.6,
R.7, R.8 to better reassure
their knowledge and abilities
regarding bar graphs.
DA:
To better assist the
students who have trouble in
math and require
accommodations according to
their IEP, these students will
have a lower required passing
score on the IXL codes. The
passing score for the students
with IEPs to move on to the
next score will be 80 instead
of the normal 100.
S:
The students will watch a
video that describes the
animal life cycles.
S/T:
The teacher will assign
the students to use their
laptops and play animal life
cycle games that are
interactive. In these
interactive experiences,
students will gain a better
understanding of how the
animal life cycle works. Also,
they will see how the life
cycle can appear different for
different animals.
S/A/T:
Students will begin
creating a in class project that
involves them drawing an
animals life cycle that they
choose. Every student in the
classroom must have a
different animal life cycle to
promote learning about new
animals.
HI/GEO:
After receiving a
lesson about the Powhatan
Native Americans, the
students will complete a
worksheet with a map of the
United States and color wher
the Powhatan Native
Americans lived. This
worksheet will be used when
learning about the remaining
2 Native American Tribes.
HI/LI:
The students will
watch a roughly 14 minute
long video that discusses, in
greater detail, the Powhatan
Native Americans. The video
will discuss their way of life
how they survived, how they
got food, and what roles they
all had in order to survive in
the coastal plains.

Animal Life Cycle and Plant Life
Cycle
ENG:
The students will be
assigned to start reading the
Magic Tree House Book
Pirates Past Noon
. As
students are reading this story,
they will be asked to identify
who the characters are, the
conflict is, the theme,
problem, solution, and predict
how the story will end.
ENG/L/R/W/A:
The students
will continue working on their
fiction stories. Once the
students receive their rough
drafts back from the teacher,
they will make the edits on a
separate sheet of paper before
they write it on the book
paper. Once students finish
writing their story, they will
begin drawing their pictures
on a sheet of paper before
they put it on the book paper.
The pictures must be detailed
and colorful.
DA:
To assist with the
students who struggle reading
chapter books, these students
will have access to read aloud
versions of the books. If these
students have IEPs, those
requirements will be met.
M:
Students will be shown a
video that describes what
pictographs are, how to build
them, and any other necessary
details for pictographs.
M/T/CT
: Students will
complete IXL codes R.11,
R.12, R.13, R.14 to better
reassure their knowledge and
abilities regarding
pictographs. This will also
help them in creating
pictographs.
M/CC:
Using the same data
from previous assignment
with school supplies and bar
graphs, the students will then
take that data from that
assignment and turn it into a
pictograph.
S/A/T/OL:
Students will
finish working on their
drawings regarding their
specific animal’s life cycle.
Once students are finished
with their life cycle, they will
then briefly present it to the
class and discuss their
animal’s life cycle.
S/R/T:
The teacher will
assign students to read the
National Geographic book
about the plant life cycle. The
book will be on Trueflix
which is an online book
website. Students will log on
to their laptops and read the
book.
DA:
To assist with the needs
of the students who have IEPs
that are directed at the
student’s ability to read.
Those students will use
headphones for it to read
aloud to them and can be
pulled into small groups to
help with focus as well.
HI/L:
The teacher will show
video about the Lakota Nativ
Americans that lived in the
Great Plains.
HI/A/GA:
The students will
conduct a group activity to
build a home for the Lakota
Native Americans with
popsicle sticks, hot glue (use
by the teacher), and paper.
HI/GEO:
After receiving a
lesson about the Lakota
Native Americans, the
students will complete a
worksheet with a map of the
United States and color wher
the Lakota Native American
lived. This worksheet will be
used when learning about the
remaining Native American
Tribe. Students will also be
asked to label which Native
American tribe is which with
a color key.

R/CM/OL/W/A:
Students
will complete their books and
add in their colorful drawings.
Once the teacher reviews
them for proper grammar, the
students will read them in
front of the whole class.
Throughout the story, the
teacher will pause the reading
to ask the class questions
about who the main character
is, the conflict, and what their
prediction is for the ending of
the story.
EVAL:
The teacher will then
evaluate how the student read
the book to the class, grade
their grammar and spelling.
DA:
Students can have the
option to type of their words
and then glue them on to the
book paper if they are unable
to write at that rate.
M:
Students will complete a
worksheet that will give them
pictographs and bar graphs for
them to decipher to answer a
multitude of multiple choice
questions. This worksheet will
serve as a review for their
upcoming quiz that will go
over making a pictograph
(with given data), making a
bar graph (with given data),
and then selecting which
pictograph or bar graph is
correct with the data given in
the question.
M/PE/CC/GA:
The teacher
will time each student in how
long it takes for them to run
one lap around the perimeter
of the gym. The times will be
in 3 categories which are less
than 30 seconds, between 30
seconds and 1 minute, and
more than 1 minute. After
each students completes their
lap, the students will complete
a pictograph representing the
3 categories and the students
times around the gym.
EVAL:
Students will
complete a quiz in which will
test their knowledge of bar
graphs and pictographs.
S/LI:
The teacher will show
the students a short YouTube
video that describes, in detail,
the plant cycle.
S/T:
The teacher will assign
the students to use their
laptops and play plant life
cycle games that are
interactive. In these
interactive experiences,
students will gain a better
understanding of how the
plant life cycle works. Also,
they will see how the life
cycle can appear different for
different plants.
HI/LI:
Teacher will show a
video about the Pueblo
Indians that details how they
lived, what their homes were
like, and how they survived
the rough environment of the
southwest.
HI/GEO:
After receiving a
lesson about the Pueblo
Native Americans, the
students will complete a
worksheet with a map of the
United States and color wher
the Pueblo Native American
lived. This worksheet will be
used when learning about the
remaining Native American
Tribe. Students will also be
asked to label which Native
American tribe is which with
a color key.
