Assignment 5
Name:__Emily Meyer________
A poll of 2000 American adults showed that 1440 thought chemical dumps are among the most serious health
threats. Estimate with a 98% confidence interval for the proportion of population who thinks the chemical
dumps are the most serious health threats. Copy and paste the MINITAB output. Find the margin of error and
interpret the confidence interval.
98% confidence interval for the proportion of voters who think that
chemical dumps are the most serious health threats is 69.6% to
74.3%. The margin error is (74.3- 69.6)/2% = 2.35%
The health threats has a rating of 72% with margin of error is 2. we
are 98% confident that the proportion of people who think that the
chemical dumps are serious health threats is between 69.6% and
74.3%.
From a random sample of 400 bolts, it is found that 28 are defective. Is there enough evidence to say that more
than 5% of the bolts are defective? Copy and paste the MINITAB output. State your conclusion clearly.
The p-value is 0.359 which is greater than 0.05 so therefore we cannot reject the
null hypothesis so we conclude that there is not enough evidence to say that
the proportion of bolts are more than 5% are defective.

Assignment 5
Name:__Emily Meyer________
In a random sample of 1200 people, 108 are allergic to a drug. Is there enough evidence to say fewer than 10%
of people allergic to the drug? Copy and paste the MINITAB output. State your conclusion clearly.
The p-value is 1.00 which is greater than 0.05 we cannot reject the null
hypothesis so we can conclude there is not enough evidence to say that 10%
of
the people are allergic to the drug.
A pollster surveys 400 MN residents about their opinion on a proposed tax increase. Their responds are
recorded in the file “TaxHike.xlsx”. Open the data set in MINITAB and find 90% confidence interval for the
proportion of MN residents who favor the tax increase. Copy and paste the MINITAB output. Find the margin
of error and interpret the confidence interval.
90% confidence interval for the proportion of residents who favor the tax
increase is 17.6% and 24.3%. the Margin of error is (24.3 – 17.6)/2%
= 3.35%
We are 90% confident between 24.3% and 17.6% of the residents favor
the tax increase.
Using the TaxHike.xlsx data, find 90% confidence interval for the
proportion of MN residents who oppose the tax increase. Copy
and paste the MINITAB output. Find the margin of error and
interpret the confidence interval.

Assignment 5
Name:__Emily Meyer________
90% confidence interval for the proportion of residents who oppose the tax increase is 82.4% and 75.7%. We
are confident that between 75.7% and 82.4% of the people oppose the tax increase.
Using the TaxHike.xlsx data, determine whether there is enough evidence to say less than 25% of MN residence
favor the tax increase. Copy and paste the MINITAB output. State your conclusion clearly.
the p-value is 0.032 which is less than 0.05 so we can reject the null
hypothesis. There is a significant amount of evidence to say that more than
25% of residences favor the tax increase.
Use SPSS to answer the following
Open “
TaxHike.xlsx”
data set in SPSS and draw a bar chart and Pie chart to display the responses. Type your
name in the title of the graphs. Copy and paste the charts. Format and resize the charts.
Find the percentage of people who favor the tax
increase and percentage of people who oppose the tax increase. Copy and paste the SPSS output.

Assignment 5
Name:__Emily Meyer________
Determine whether there is enough evidence to say less than 25% of MN residence favor the tax increase. Copy
and paste the SPSS output. State your conclusion clearly.
Null hypothesis: majority of the residence do not favor the tax increase.
Alternative hypothesis: majority of the residence favor the tax increase.
p-value = 0.037 / 2 = 0.0185. the p-value is less than 0.05 so we can reject the null hypothesis. There a
significant amount of evidence to say that the majority of residence do not favor the tax increase.
Determine whether there is enough evidence to say more than 60% of MN residence oppose the tax increase.
Copy and paste the SPSS output. State your conclusion clearly.
The p-value is 0.01/ 2 = 0.005 which is less than 0.05 so we can reject the null hypothesis and there is
significant evidence to say more than 60% of the voters oppose the tax increase.
