Elaborate and Evaluate Assignment: MAED 5353 Prompt Response Name Heidi Woodall Current position (if applicable) Teacher If currently teaching, grade level: 3 rd Grade If currently teaching, subject(s): Math/Science Teaching certification (if applicable): EC-6 Generalist ESL Certification Prompt Response Which learning module did you complete? Probability Attach your (handwritten) homework to the end of this document. Check you work against the given answers. What was your biggest learning or aha! from this module? Explain. I thought Pascal’s Triangle was very interesting to use with a probability experiment. It was not something that I had heard about until taking this course. What is still confusing or was difficult about the learning in this module? Explain. Using the Tree Diagram in the video and also making sure the tables I was building best matched the data I was looking for. What can you apply from this module to your classroom? Be specific and draw from the standards. (This response should be fairly lengthy, e.g., 500 words). In this module, Professor Kader starts by gaging student understanding of what probability is. They discuss experimental probability model by asking a question, collecting the data, analyzing the data, and interpreting the results. They are tasked with an activity to where they are trying to see if teachers have ESP. After completing the activity they created a frequency table to support their data. He then introduces them to the tree diagram. Which leads them into Pascal’s Triangle where they are able to see the pattern they created more easily with than continuing a tree diagram. Something I really enjoyed seeing is the way this can help in a real-world situation. That there are companies out there that take on the risk or probability of prize-winning amounts. They look at various data points to assume the risk of a likely even occurring and if there isn’t sufficient data they make assumptions as to what could occur. When hearing about various event where there is a specific prize amount to be won you assume that that person or company has the money to pay for that prize. However, 1 3/21/24 19:20 a3/p3
that is not always the case. While this type of activity is more advanced than my 3 rd graders level it definitely is something that can be applied when talking about the likelihood of something occurring. 2 3/21/24 19:20 a3/p3
