In this personal statement I will address my plans and aspirations for completing a graduate
education. I believe that an adequate college education is a necessity in today's society. There are
numerous resources and opportunities available to those who choose to seek a college education. I
am committed to continuing my education to achieve my career goal of becoming a family nurse
practitioner. Several members of my family are in the healthcare field, as both doctors and nurses. I
have had the privilege of growing up observing and learning about the field from a private practice
perspective. From this, I developed my interest in the healthcare field and decided that I wanted to
become a part of the healthcare field. I want to be able to make a difference in the world and in
people's lives. I have often heard about there being a nursing shortage and the need for more
practicing nurses and advance practicing nurses. After researching and evaluating the different roles
and job opportunities in healthcare, I determined that nursing is the specific area that is the best fit
for me. By pursing my career goal to become a family nurse practitioner, I could make a difference
in the world and people's lives as well as help fill the need for nurses. I began my journey by
pursuing my ADN at The University of West Alabama. After I graduated in 2013, I started working
as a floor nurse on a medical–surgical unit at Druid City Hospital (DCH) in my hometown of
Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The unit

'Slow and steady wins the race', they say. Nothing best describes my passage through life as does
this adage: mine has been flanked by academic challenges and high family standards. Yet, I have not
only always pulled through but have done so most gallantly, even finishing best at some levels.
Primary and Secondary Schools education were for me, not quite fulfilling, that is at first. I was
quite poor in Mathematics. Having older siblings who excelled in all subjects did not make it any
easier. Everyone compared me with them. As a result, I had a low self esteem and continued to
perform poorly until my final secondary examinations. It was then that I told myself I could do it. I

Even so, I realized that I would have to thrive among a large class of students most of whom could
already read, write and speak French. With a foundation steeped in resolve, I again made up my
mind to give it my best shot. I decided to do more than merely survive and so, I began teaching, on
Saturdays, at a French club for children between the ages of 3 and 14. I used songs and poems as
learning aids and assisted them in doing assignments from their various schools. I also spent hours
in the university library, poring over any book that was written in French, and checking up French
vocabulary in my dictionary. Although I had to sacrifice time that would have been used in leisure, it
was well worth the effort. I graduated 5th best in a class of 135 people. The secret of my conquest
was simple, albeit riddled with painstaking attempts and occasional failures: 'If you fail, try again!'
Learning French also fulfilled my interests in traveling. I had the opportunity to visit French–
speaking African countries like Benin Republic and Togo. I did not only become fluent in the
language, but also came to understand how the culture, beliefs, and traditions of man shape what
values he represents. Likewise, I realized that factors such as art, literature, language, music, dance,
laws, wars among others, are all key in the

As I am nearing the end of my undergraduate journey, I find that I am being asked more frequently
as to what my plans are after graduation. When I respond that I am applying to graduate school and I
am really excited about continuing my education, I often receive the same reaction: a look of utter
confusion and the question "Why?" The answer is simple: I love learning. I think that knowledge
gives one more power than possessing riches, fame, or an army ever could. To quote the Doctor in
my favorite TV show, Doctor Who, he says "You want weapons? We're in a library! Books! The best
weapons in the world! This room's the greatest arsenal we could have – arm yourselves!" This quote
illustrates exactly how I feel about possessing knowledge. There isn't a problem in this world that a
little bit of erudition can't solve. However,

taking that success and finding a way to give back to the community and people that raised me. The

heart and soul into getting better at my technique then I could become someone worth talking about.
However, when I entered high school I realized that we do not have the kind of financial stability

Graduate Degree Entry Essay
A movement of people, ideas, services, and goods that increasingly see no boundaries fascinated me.
More so because I, myself, am a product of transplantation. Since then, my otherwise typical
American dream narrative gradually evolved into a lifelong passion toward global affairs. And a
reach for the graduate degree is an appropriate step in realizing that passion. After a search of what
can best capitalize my skills, I arrived at an undergraduate major in international studies. Gaining
deeper insights into contemporary issues, such as a worldwide expansion of the middle class, a
dilemma between environmental safeguard and economic development, an escalation of conflicts
between the states and nonconventional actors, was enlightening, humbling, and harrowing at times.
Nevertheless, a field which delves into a complex state of global affairs dovetailed my penchant in
exploring an unparalleled gamut of issues and approaching the current affairs through an
interdisciplinary lens using politics, economics, history, and philosophies. Henceforth, I became sure
this was a path for me. What propelled my desire to study even further was the exposure in
international trade through my career as import and export specialist. Entry into my career was a

commerce reinforced an intricate, often vulnerable, web of international relations and kindled an

Graduate Admissions Committee, Freshman year of undergraduate school was an overwhelming

for the first time had to develop my own academic schedule, social schedule, and delegate time for

Haiti after my studies to work and I founded an association helping socially disadvantaged people,
teaching them civics, motivating the youth to have an academic formation. That organization was
my second passion until the day some people started to threaten my life on the basis that I was
acting against the government. Leaving my family and everything behind,I came to this country rich
in opportunities and rewards for those willing to work hard.

George Mason University Application Essay
Do you happen to know any 18 year olds that have written a research paper on bioterrorism and
ways to prepare for a bioterrorist attack? Do you happen to know any 18 year olds that find public
health, medical ethics, international relations, public policy, and medical research fascinating?
Although such matters may seem boring to some, they happen to excite me! I am currently a student
at Christopher Newport University (CNU), and I have realized that the opportunities presented to
me at CNU are somewhat limited, in comparison to the opportunities George Mason University
provides. When I made the decision to go to CNU, I believed that merging pre–med and political
science would be analogous to a public health undergraduate experience. I soon

I felt as though I didn't really love what I was studying, that I wasn't really connecting with other
students who shared my academic interests, and that my options were limited when it came to
exploring subjects I really had an interest in, such as community/public health. I want to transfer to
George Mason because of the multicultural campus community, the tremendous academic programs,
and because of Mason's ideal location. My uncle, Eugene Koranteng, attended Mason after coming
from Ghana to the USA, and made his mark as a triple jump record holder. He told me that he
wouldn't alter a thing about his college experience! I also have friends who currently attend George
Mason, and share with me new people they've met, as well as, new cultures they've learned about
and embraced! Although Mason's campus is large, George Mason still keeps its class sizes small. I
have recognized in going to CNU that a small campus is great, but when a campus is so small, the
people tend to be homogeneous. At Mason, I know that there is so much to do, to learn, as well as,
so many different people to

Graduate School Admission Essay Sample
No one in my immediate family has ever even had the good fortune to apply to a graduate school,
but I have always contemplated going to graduate school even before I began my undergraduate
career. That is the kind of person I am––always strategizing my next plan of action. More
importantly, I have always understood the importance of having a master's degree. While I have
always had my heart set on attending graduate school
, I was previously unsure about the specifics of
how I would earn my master's degree. Now I am confident that getting a Master of Health
Administration from Johns Hopkins University would help me accomplish much more than simply
my career goals.
There are 3 fundamental reasons why I am applying to this program. First, this program would help
me achieve my career goal. I have taken a keen interest in healthcare consulting and I would
appreciate a job at a company like McKinsey, Deloitte, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Healthcare
consulting would give

By the time I graduate I will have been a part of the Zhu lab for 2 years. At the Zhu lab, I have been
assigned to numerous projects, but the one that stands out is "Drug Transporter–Mediated Drug–
Drug Interaction between Metformin and LCZ696". I was involved in every part of this project; my
colleagues and I designed this experiment, conducted it, troubleshot it, analyzed the results, and
even presented our findings at a symposium. The project used techniques like mass spectroscopy,
high–perfromance liquid chromatography, and tissue cultures to observe the drug–drug interaction.
While there were numerous obstacles because I had never participated in a project like this, and
there were times when the experiment was not working and we had to troubleshoot the problem, at
the end of the day, we always persevered. These projects were incredibly daunting, but, ultimately,
gratifying, and allowed me to develop fundamental research
