DEI Project Part Two ` Ways in which Diversity and Inclusion impact Marketing Practices 1. Impact on brand image and advertisements - Diversity and inclusion impact marketing strategies through the image they put on their advertisements. Including more diversity in their campaigns resonates with the viewers and consumers. Consumers will see more representation of their cultures and traditions on TV or phone ads. They may be more inclined to learn more about what the ad is promoting if they see people similar to them on the front page. The marketing campaigns become more relatable to specific niche audiences. 2. Impact on Prior Stereotypes and Cliches - Having diversity and inclusion initiatives on your marketing team reduces the production of campaigns that include popular stereotypes and cliches. While these stereotypes and cliches grab a viewer's attention and in some ways are considered funny the teams producing these ads completely ignore the other audiences that these stereotypes are critiquing and turning into a joke. Having diversity on the team gives insight to everyone on a different perspective of these ads ultimately putting a stop to potential offensive campaigns. 3. Impact on language barriers or cultural speech - Diversity and inclusion on a marketing team give the team an expansion on language or cultural trends and lingo. A diverse team can create campaigns that cater to several different cultures specifically using language or inside jokes that are only understood by certain cultural groups. This gives the brand an expansion
in their audience even potentially letting them reach out to those outside of the US or their region. 4. Impact on collaborations or partnerships - Diversity and inclusion in marketing strategies can expand the limitation on collaborations and partnerships. Having a diverse team will make influencers or other cultural brands more inclined to work with the brand making them feel more welcomed and comfortable. A team of people you can relate to is a team you want to work with. Influencers or brands from different backgrounds want marketing teams that include people from different backgrounds as well. Through influencers and brands, it could potentially expand a brand image to audiences who would have never come across it if it wasn't for these diverse collaborations. 5. Impact on data and information - Diversity and inclusion in marketing strategies allow for the team to decipher and analyze consumer data very differently. Having people from diverse backgrounds gives you a different perspective and new ideas on the data you receive from consumers. Since they can relate to the several cultures when reading data or information from consumers similar to them they have much better insight on ways to target and market to that audience based solely on the data collected. Why it is good strategically that brands be diverse and inclusive in their marketing? - Being diverse and inclusive in their marketing is good strategically for brands because it allows them to reach a broader audience, strengthens the brand's image and reputation,
introduces new ideas to the team, avoids brand backlash, and lets them merge and adapt to the changing global market. Why it is good strategically that brands be diverse and inclusive in their hiring practices? - A brand being Diverse and inclusive in its hiring practices is good strategically as it builds a strong team of people from different cultural backgrounds that all contribute different talents and ideas. I looked at Fenty Beauty. I chose them because they’re known for being one of the first makeup brands to have a truly inclusive shade range for foundation and concealer. Rhianna really gave the whole makeup industry a reality check, and consumers support her for all she’s done. Her marketing mission is “Beauty For All”, and she’s really been able to execute that thus far. In the campaign trailer for Fenty, they showcased their products on a huge range of skin tones in a really beautiful way, demonstrating the quality and range of products. You might not expect a musician to have such a great impact on the makeup industry but she really did. The campaign trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubHt-vmIqhg&t=19s Work Cited Page
