Part A: Environmental Analysis and SWOT Analysis
Business Description
Southwest Airlines Co. was founded in Dallas, TX in 1967 and went commercial on June 18, 1981. It is the world's largest operator of the Boeing 737 and has a fleet of eight hundred seventeen (About Southwest Airlines, 2024). Being in business over fifty years, the airline is in more than one hundred twenty airports across eleven countries. The company’s mission statement is “To connect People to what's important in their lives through friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel.” (About Southwest Airlines, 2024).
The vision statement is “To be the world's most loved, most efficient, and most profitable airline” (About Southwest Airlines, 2024).
Environmental Analysis
Competitive Forces
Southwest is the fourth largest commercial airline fleet globally with over seventy-four thousand employees (About Southwest Airlines, 2024). The main competitors are Delta,
American, Frontier, and Spirit airlines. Southwest Airlines ranks number one in overall customer service compared to their competitors (About Southwest Airlines, 2024). To stay competitive in this challenging environment, Southwest needs to continue focusing on cost control, operational efficiency, and delivering a superior customer experience.
Economic Forces
The company has made approximately
26.1 billion USD as of May 2024 (Southwest Airlines Co (LUV) 2024) and has increased 9.56% since 2022 (Southwest Airlines Co(LUV) 2024). During the pandemic, air travels decreased due to people not feeling safe being in proximity of airplanes.
Political Forces
Geopolitical events can impact international travel and tourism. To prevent exploitation and other sorts of mistreatment Southwest should guarantee that the employees know the rules and regulations (International Labor Organization, 2023).
Legal, Regulatory, and Ethical Issues
Legal
The laws determine how much overtime employees can be worked, how many hours a person can work in a day, and paid vacation. They are in place to safeguard employees,
but they can be challenging for businesses especially if people are not use to their
culture (International Labor Organization, 2023). Employment Security Act went into effect January 1st, 2018, and it states if working conditions of labor contracts are different from the conditions indicated in the initial job-offering (International Labor Organization, 2023).
Regulatory
The organization provides a detailed onboarding program that includes networking opportunities, orientation, and training based off the individual jobs. The business also offers mentorship programs and chances for workers to interact with senior personnel and leadership. (Southwest 2024). Due to the pandemic, Southwest still has virtual interviews but since the guidelines have changed in-person interviews are now an option again (Southwest, 2024). The company still makes it efficient, effective, and engaging to the new employees.
Ethical
Labor unions represented approximately 83% of our workforce. (Southwest, 2024). Their approach to collective bargaining focuses on partnering with Leaders and Unions to negotiate labor agreements that achieve positive outcomes for the employees (Southwest, 2024). The company should work with a local labor union to make rules are
followed. Every business should make sure employees are aware of their legal rights and protections, such as Employee handbooks, training seminars, etc. (Southwest SWOT 2023).

Hexagon is an online retailer of exotic foods including spices from around the world, canned sauces, and prepackaged breads such as tortillas and naan. The company does 100 percent of its business over the Internet to consumers and through private networks with retail trading partners. Recently, Hexagon moved its sales and business headquarters functions into a warehouse on the outskirts of San Francisco. Prior to the move, the company engaged the services of an architect to redesign the facility to be modern yet in keeping with the original character of the building. While remodeling the warehouse, the architects retained the wooden-shingled exterior and the exposed wooden beams throughout the interior. The data processing center, which contained the servers and networked terminals, was situated in a large open area with high ceilings and skylights. HIRE-PURCHASE FACILITY IN MALAYSIA:
AN EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS
The article by Nurdianawati Irwani Abdullaba and Asyraf Wajdi Dusukib analyzes the
perceptions of customers towards Islamic hire-purchase facilities in Malaysia. The
study is empirical in nature and provides a detailed analysis of the data collected.
The authors have used a variety of statistical tools to analyze the data and draw
conclusions.
The study found that customers generally have a positive perception of Islamic hire-
purchase facilities in Malaysia. The authors attribute this to the fact that these
facilities are based on Islamic principles and are seen as more ethical and fairer than
conventional hire-purchase facilities. The study also found that customers are more
likely to use Islamic hire-purchase facilities if they are aware of the benefits and
understand how they work.
Overall, the study provides valuable insights into the perceptions of customers

Croad Cycle Company (CCC) is a small to medium enterprise (SME) based in Canada, which manufactures high-end mountain bikes (MTBs) for the competition and domestic markets on the west coast of Canada and the USA. Company founder and CEO, Bob Croad, was a pioneer of the Canadian MTB scene in the 1990s and began making his own MTBs in his garage at home in 2001.
Over the last 20 years, CCC has built a strong reputation in North America for innovative bike geometry and designs, and for producing fast, high performance bikes. However, things really began to take off for CCC last year, when two young Canadian riders (both sponsored by the company and riding CCC bikes), placed in the top 10 of the World MTB Championships. The success of these riders provided the company with significant exposure on the global stage, which resulted in a substantial jump in visits to their website from countries such as Australia, Japan and several European countries. While the company has seen increases in personal hygiene and cleaning products, the overall profit position decreased by 40 percent in 2020 when compared to 2019.
At the beginning of 2021, the CEO had become very concerned about the state of the company and in a meeting with the Senior Leadership Team gave instructions which left some of them concerned. Based on a scenario of lifting severe travel restrictions after three months, IATA reported thatpassenger demand in 2020 in the Asia Pacific region to be reduced by 35%–45%, with a combinedrevenue loss of $88 billion. Fighting for survival, airlines “would need financial relief urgently tosustain their businesses through this volatile situation,” said Conrad Clifford, IATA’s RegionalVice President, Asia-Pacific.Looking back in history, the airline industry has always bounced back from every crisis it hasexperienced. After the 2003 SARS outbreak, which caused Asia Pacific airlines to lose $6 billion, travel returned to normal within nine months. One glimmer of hope in the midst of the coronavirusdevastation was the oil price war between Saudi Arabia and Russia. In January 2020, crudehovered above $70 a barrel. By March, it fell to $30. This would be a tremendous lift for airlines, because fuel burn was one of their biggest expenses. While the weak players were washed out bythe virus,…

Gulf Coast Electronics is ready to award contracts to suppliers for providing reservoir capacitors for use in its electronic devices. For the past several years, Gulf Coast Electronics has relied on two
suppliers for its reservoir capacitors: Able Controls and Lyshenko Industries. A new firm, Boston Components, has inquired into the possibility of providing a portion of the reservoir capacitors needed

The quality of products provided by Lyshenko Industries has been extremely high; in fact, only 0.5% of the capacitors provided by Lyshenko had to be discarded because of quality problems. Able
Controls has also had a high quality level historically, producing an average of only 1% unacceptable capacitors. Because Gulf Coast Electronics has had no experience with Boston Components, it
estimated Boston Components' defective rate to be 10%.

If LMC gets the order, it may be able to sell as many as 3,000 units per year to Gulf Electric
for $60 each, and costs will be $15 per unit.
The firm expects that the project will have about five-year product life. The firm also
estimates that the amount ordered by Gulf Electric in the first year will be ordered in each

The initial investr

AO-Funded Aquaponics Project Launched In Barbados Barbados GIS – The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has collaborated with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy, and local business Adams Aquafarms, on a project to train persons in aquaponics. Aquaponics is a sustainable way of integrating land-based fish farming with plant production. Both are placed in a tank, and the set up allows for them to coexist, with the waste produced by the fish fertilizing the plants, while the plants purify the water for the fish. The training, funded by the FAO, will take place at a demonstration facility, located at Adams Aquafarms, Hopewell, St. Thomas. The FAO is currently targeting 30 entrepreneurs and 10 teachers. Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy, Kirk Humphrey, believes the project will be “transformative”, as it has the potential to empower Barbadians. “In aquaponics, you have the opportunity to have, at the same time, multiple sources of…
