BI&A, Spring 2022 Isenberg School of Management, UMass Amherst Page 13 of 13 Q6a. Use the filters YEAR (Order Date) to find out if the relationship between sales and profit is consistent in each year. Explain your conclusion based on the data view. The relationship has a positive correlation all four years, but the correlation is stronger in 2014 and 2016 than it is in 2015 and 2017. So, all though the strength of the relationship is not consistent, there is a consistently positive correlation between sales and profit. Q6b. Use the filter YEAR (Order Date) and Category to find out 1) if each category shows the same relationship between sales and profit in 2015; and 2) if the pattern continued in 2016. Explain your conclusion based on the data view. In 2015 furniture has slightly weak positive relationship between profit and sales whereas Office supplies and Technology have a stronger positive relationship. The pattern continues in 2016. We can see this based on how close the data points are for Office Supplies and Technology as opposed to furniture. This means high sales usually indicates high profit for Office supplies and Technology but not necessarily for furniture.
