Customer Influence on Quality 1.2 Customer Influence on Quality First Product Name: Apple Newton MessagePad 1. Why do you think the business thought this product was "quality" and would succeed? Apple believed that the Newton MessagePad was a quality product because it was an innovative handheld device that was designed to be a personal digital assistant (PDA) that could recognize handwriting and translate it into text. The product was also equipped with advanced features such as email, fax, and internet connectivity. 2. How did the product sell, and how did that compare with competitors, if any? The product did not sell well and faced tough competition from other established PDA brands such as Palm Pilot. Sales were poor due to the high price of the product, technical glitches, and software limitations. 3. There are a lot of reasons why a product fails. But with respect to quality, why do you think this product ultimately failed? The product ultimately failed with respect to quality because it did not meet the needs of customers. The device was too expensive, had limited software options, and its handwriting recognition technology was not accurate enough. Customers found it difficult to use and preferred simpler devices such as the Palm Pilot. 4. Remember that a key portion of quality is consistency. The other key part of quality is that it meets a customer need.
