2-2 Research: Short Paper Case Study Analysis 2 The integration of HR with organizational culture plays a crucial role in driving the success of companies. This essay examines how Google, Scripps (now part of Discovery), and UPS have effectively integrated HR into their respective organizational cultures, leading to positive outcomes. Additionally, a comparison is drawn between the cultural facets mentioned and personal experiences with employers. Google's HR approach focuses on aligning its work environment with organizational culture and business objectives. “Google recognized that traditional HR practices were failing to keep pace with the evolving demands of a rapidly changing workforce. To address this, the company implemented a new approach that placed greater emphasis on data-driven decision- making and employee empowerment (How Google Reinvented the HR, n.d.). By emphasizing flexibility and results-driven outcomes, Google empowers its employees to contribute creatively. This integration of HR and culture fosters innovation and enhances overall performance. Regular communication about business objectives and operational results ensures transparency and keeps employees engaged. Scripps, now part of Discovery, places HR at the core of its strategic goals. During mergers, HR plays a crucial role in integrating the cultures of different entities effectively. “HR professionals typically play pivotal roles in an acquisition's core due diligence activity. During due diligence, information about talent and culture—along with typical assessments of employee benefits plans and liabilities, compensation programs, employment contracts and policies, legal exposure, and more (SHRM, 2023). HR efforts at Scripps include a pay-for-performance system, leadership development initiatives, and work-life balance programs. By emphasizing compassion and support, Scripps creates a culture that values employee well-being and personal growth.

The company emphasizes the link between HR and business objectives, using communication channels and intranet programs to keep employees informed. UPS highlights corporate integrity through established codes of conduct and annual reviews. The focus on ethics and providing guidance for ethical dilemmas helps foster a culture of trust and accountability. The cultural facets mentioned in the case study may differ from personal experiences with other employers. These variations can stem from industry differences, company size, leadership styles, and regional or national cultural factors. It is essential to note that organizational cultures evolve and can differ even within the same industry. Some comparing cultural facets would be that in some employers, HR may not be as closely integrated with organizational culture, resulting in a more transactional approach to HR practices. Leadership development initiatives and work-life balance programs may vary or be absent in certain organizations. Lastly, the level of emphasis on ethical conduct and the presence of comprehensive codes of conduct can vary significantly. Some differences in employer views would be the perspectives on culture and HR integration which can be influenced by various factors such as, organizational values and strategic goals shape the importance placed on HR integration. Leadership styles and management philosophies impact the prioritization of HR initiatives. Lastly, industry norms and competitive landscapes can influence the adoption of specific HR practices. However, each company “has been recognized for implementing HR as core to their organizational cultures and successful business results (Mathis & Jackson, 2010).
