Introduction Emotional intelligence has been the term which was coined by the popular psychosis Peter Salvo and Mayer John in 1990 Connor et al., (2019). It refers to the albites to have control over one's own emotions and aptly use them to guide critical thinking and right behavior. Emotional intelligence plays a vital role in leadership Maamari & Majdalani, (2017). Well- known personalities from the business world, such as the most popular leader for Amazon, Jeff Bezos, clearly illustrate his emotional intelligence through the leadership style and is one of the primary factors for the immense success that Amazon enjoys Gamboa, (2019). He uses his emotional intelligence skills to make others comfortable. As the CEO of one of the largest retailers in business online, Jeff Bezos is always under the radar of scrutiny and criticism for his professional and personal life. Surprisingly, he continues to grow despite scrutiny to deal with these criticisms as hurdles and step forward towards a better future. It clearly illustrates the benefits that emotional intelligence brings to the world's largest online retailers. Importance and Benefits of Emotional Intelligence in Amazon Jeff Bezos of Amazon clearly illustrates the importance of emotional intelligence. Emotional emergence is the ability to recognize, understand, and influence the emotions that others possess. It mainly has five main elements motivation, social skill, awareness. Self-regulation and empathy Routray et al., (2017). Bezos clearly shows these emotional intelligence skills. He has full emphatic to consumers and follows a customer-centric approach. He is ready to forgo short-term profits over long- term commitments of his consumers with the dedication he has shown toward consumers. Bezos clearly shows it through acquiring known information and building string and collaborative trams for growing amazon in terms of social awareness.
With the challenge of the pandemic, Jeff Bezos portrays his emotions which shows awareness and self-regulation. In situations where leaders hide emotions, Jeff openly announces that these are not normal situations and would be a great challenge for Amazon to make connections with his team. A cornerstone of emotional intelligence that Jeff Bezos portrays is self-awareness. He knows his strengths and weaknesses. He realizes he does not have the answer or solution to every problem. Hence, he intentionally builds a team with more skilled and knowledgeable people than him to advise him and take his company to reach heights of success. The motivation of his employees is the key to success for Jeff Bezos. Amazon is a few companies that encourage employees to generate views and ensure that the decision making is done keeping in lieu everyone's ideas to result in innovations and maximum productivity, which is clear from Amazon's growing success. Jeff Bezos is a true leader with emotional intelligence and a living proof that exhibits the importance and benefits of emotional intelligence in leadership. He states that to take amazon upon, he has applied capital investments and attained emotional intelligence. Strategies to adopt emotional intelligence Knowing the importance of emotional; intelligence for success, as we can see, the living example of Jeff Bezos should utilize certain strategies to adopt the skills. Self-monitoring Motivation is the key to emotional intelligence. Instead of discouraging those around you for their shortcomings, if one is a leader, give them a pathway to improve and motivate them for small efforts through rewards. Jeff Bezos has always been motivational, which brings more productivity from every individual. Use the self-awareness tool. Surround oneself with awareness of oneself and the environment. As per Goleman, self-
arenes will help one identify their strengths., work on their weakness and succeed as a person by working on the weakness and utilizing the strengths. Stress management Stress management skills is a factor to develop emotional intelligence. Being calm in tough situations and keeping one’s nerves calm works well and paves the way for local decisions. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said that stress primarily comes from not taking the apt action when we have controlled the situations. If one foresees turmoil, first target the source with appropriate action to reduce stress.
