Describe a dysfunctional example of conflict and a functional example of conflict in an organization that you are familiar. What were some of the useful aspects of organizational conflict in this setting? A dysfunctional conflict can have a negative effect on an organization's employee relations. It can involve aggressive behavior, such as hostility, and a lack of respect for others. Usually, dysfunctional conflicts involve several issues, and they can get very personal or heated. Dysfunctional conflicts manifest in intense emotions, a lack of progress within the organization, noncooperation, poor communication, and adverse effects on staff members. For instance, I once worked for a company that had regular harassment. Due to the nature of the situation, some of the women thought that I and two other individuals were being talked about, so we kept telling them that we were not interested in talking about them. It was because they didn't want to hear anything about them. Good thing there were other people who could help you manage your stress levels. Unfortunately, in this instance, they decided to turn a meaningful and special situation into a personal one. Regardless of the time of day or job position that you may be working in, every job will eventually have a dysfunctional conflict. In my opinion, family is not a perfect example of a harmonious relationship. The problem lies in the fact that there will be drama within the household, in the restaurant, or outside the public's view. One of the worst places that dysfunctional conflicts can occur is at a funeral. I have witnessed various instances of unruly and embarrassing behavior during and after the funeral. One of the main reasons why my husband and I try to avoid being involved in this type of situation is because it will only get worse. Academy To Innovate HR. (2023).
