Leadership- Figurehead, Liaison, Monitor and Disseminator Apple Inc. is a popular technology company which serves it customers with superior quality electronics such as phones, laptops, headphones, wearables and more. Three men Steve Jobs, Tim Cook and Ronal Wayne started this company in the year 1977 in the US. Presently Tim Cook is managing the company. The aim of this paper is to explore the article “From Steve Jobs to Tim Cook- Apple” by Lussier and Achua. This paper will highlight the leadership skills f Tim Cook, evaluate the four different managerial roles, and analyze how Tim Cook can assist in the continuous growth of Apple. Summary of the Article Apple Inc. began its business as an organization, which was manufacturing as well as selling computers. The company has a mission of servicing its consumers with both affordable and user-friendly products. Steve Jobs was the CEO of Apple at the age of 25 and back then, the worth of the firm was around 25 million dollars (Tedlow, 2020 ). after Apple Steve started two other businesses namely NeXT and animation studio Pixar. As per the article after Steve worked with Disney on several projects and gradually decided to sell Pixar Company to Disney in the year 2006. In the year 2011 Steve decided to transition the CEO position if Apple Inc. into Tim Cook. During the initial years many people believed that Apple was a beneficial firm due to Jobs however Cook quickly showed his value and work and was able to secure a position in the Fortune magazines in 2011 Business person of the year. Steve Jobs was an emotional leader whereas Tim Cook focused on remaining professional and emphasized on improving the operations of the firm. 2
Tim Cook improved the stocks of the company by 75 percent after passing of Steve Jobs (Kahney, 2019). Back then, Apple was able to secure the first rank in Fortune Magazine lists of top admired companies. Cook further pushed the firm in improving the quality of the products and technology; he refused to take any shortcut that would hamper the quality of products. This helps in understanding the dedication level of Cook awards the firm and the way he working to enhance the success of the company. Element of Leadership that apply to Tim Cook Leadership is considered as a type of influential process that both the followers as well as the leaders do in order to accomplish the objectives and goals of an organization. In order to gain success it is crucial that the leader has the following three elements: people. Influence and set aims. A successful leader is the one who attempts to do the correct things and shows characteristics that helps them in accomplishing their roles while earning the rust of other people. Influence Influence can be considered as the process through which a leader conveys his or her thoughts, gains the acceptance of them and is able to encourage his followers to support as well as implement the ideas through a proposed change. Cook the present CEO of Apple is observed to have the ability of influencing others to believe in his visions for the company (Singh, 2022). Both Cook and Steve Jobs have similar vision of making the firm efficient in nature. He motivated his team with his vision by being able to collaborate and coordinate with the suppliers to deliver the products with a comparatively higher quality than the other in the industry. It is important that leaders have adequate supporters and followers so that they are able to lead. Leadership is the quality that allows individuals to have develop relationship with others to be able to lead. Jobs was an emotional leader and had personal relationships with a passionate leading style. On the contrary, Cook did not have much passion however, he gave his employee confidence in their job roles and this trust helped in enhancing his relationship with his employees. Cook ensured that his employees were aware about the changes that were being made and all their innovations were working at improving the product and the company. Organized Objectives It is acknowledged that a leader must be able to perform actions that is able to gain the trust and respect of his or her employees. Apple has organization objectives that are dedicated towards developing powerful technology is easily accessible to the public. It was noted that as soon as Cook emphasized on the operational piece of the organization he efficiently improvised the supply and delivery schedules and was able to provide his employees with satisfactory organizational objectives. Leadership Skills of Tim Cook Steve Jobs was a creative leader who brought in a number of products in order to run the company however, Tim Cook had the opportunity to continue the legacy. It is analyzed that some of the most successful and crucial products of the company were launched under Tim Cook. He released the Air pods and Apple watch and with his skills leveraged success for the company. Some of the most prominent skills of Cook as a leader are admits his faults, transparent nature, hardworking, embraces diversity, humble and believes in his employees. Managerial Leadership Role 4
The four managerial roles include liaison, monitor, dissemination and figurehead, which are currently being used by the CEO of the firm. Tim Cook as the figurehead role served as the face of the firm and represented all the legal formalities (Mickle, 2020). Cook has the responsibility of signing all the legal documentations. In addition, taking meeting with clients. In the role of liaison, Cook works with other people within as well as outside the company for networking and meeting. Cook works with many foreign suppliers outside the firm in order to upsurge the availability of the products. As the disseminator Cook is accountable for communicate important information with various departments. Apples Future Growth Tim Cook did not play a crucial part in staring the company however; he has done an outstanding work in expanding the firm. He has introduced many new features such as blood oxygen technology and facial recognition, which helps in analyzing that he is trying to bring new ideas to the company. Tim Cook has a lot of room as well as time for growth and it is expected that the loyal customers will stand with the company even if there are minor quality problems because they able trust in Cook’s leadership. Conclusion From the above discussion, it is clear that leadership skills plays an important role in the success of the company. Both Steve Jobs and Tim Cook are dedicated towards Apple and are focusing on innovation in order to improve the growth of the company. Tim Cook is using his leadership skills in order to motivate employees and gain the rust of the consumers. 5
