HCM – 415 Milestone Five 2 Huntington Hospital faces several issues including poor communication as seen with the only means of communication being via email. Because management lacked leadership and supervisors frequently questioned employee’s method of doing something, there was low staff morale. Strategies in the Business Systems Office were not consistent for the proper running of the organization and staff felt that they did not have a voice. AR days was also a major issue and once Markey was hired, she was given the mandate to do whatever was needed to improved performance (Drabkin & Soule, 2015). The healthcare manager should take full control of communication and have regular meetings with department heads and ensure that matters discussed are related to all employees. He/She should also employ the same strategies as Markey since her open-door policy works so effectively. Employees at HH want to have someone to go to who would listen and try to resolve their issues. This will improve staff morale and regular meetings with managers can ensure that issues surrounding AR days are taken care of and everyone can work towards getting to the target, being in the 50’s. Key stakeholders were earlier identified as employees and management. Employees need to be empowered to make certain decisions and management need to make the provisions for this to happen. Once employees have the power to make certain decisions, I would recommend that management have frequent meetings to see the progress employees are making and to see what assistance management can provide to enable them to do their jobs efficiently. One employee explained, when your hands are tied there’s not much you can do. And yet they expect maximum productivity (Drabkin & Soule, 2015).
