Four Principles of AZ Language Development Approach & Student Agency Four Principles of Arizona's Language Development Approach The basis of this approach is that ELL students are valuable members of the education community. They play an active role in making the program successful for all the learners in AZ. Student agency Teachers give their students a voice in what and how they learn. They can learn through different activities that are meaningful and driven by interests.
Four Principles of Arizona's Language Development Approach First principle is Asset-Based Behaviors and Expectations EL students will develop confidence in their own skills and knowledge, a sense of self-efficacy, and a belief in their own ability to achieve and be successful (AZ Dept of Education, 2019). Second principle is Integrated Instruction in Disciplinary Language and Content Participation in integrated language and content instruction, EL students will develop a sense of voice, confidence, and self-determination as they use content and language in tandem to meet their goals(AZ Dept of Education, 2019).

Pull-Out Pull-out this method is when ELL students are pulled out of the their regular class for special instruction for usually 60 minutes a day.
