Module 1- Assignment 1B: Embedding Literacy into Your Content Area Part 1: Practicum 1B: Embedding Literacy in Your Content Area In Lead4Ward for 7 th grade students are expected to develop oral language through listening and discussion. For students to develop oral language is important for them to have share ideas, have discussion during class and interact with other classmates. It is not only important for students to share their point of view but, also for the rest of the students to understand their point to expand their knowledge. For students to develop their oral language is very important to use the correct verbs, tenses and antecedents, this will be possible for them by participating in class discussion and be able to hear the teacher using correct vocabulary words. For the writing process TEKS states for students to compose multiple texts that are legible and use appropriate conventions. To compose informational texts, literal texts, argumentative texts and correspondence is fundamental for students in 7 th grade, to develop their writing process and learn how to compose multiple text. I plan on embedding this literacy routine, reading and writing by creating a plan to satisfy both objectives and help students in secondary special education class, helping them to develop their oral language and writing process. As every student is different there will be different accommodations to the best of the student’s needs. Part 2 : Connecting the TEKS and the ELPS: 1. Select a TEKS from your desired content area/ grade level. 2. For each of the three following reading process components: Oral Language, Phonemic Awareness, Alphabetic Principle, select 1 ELPS student expectation and 1 corresponding classroom strategy/technique that can be used in a lesson to support students in mastering the topic. 3.
