A deep understanding of phonics allows us to pick the best practice for our students to become successful readers. Educators with a strong skill set in phonics can better assist students struggling with sounds earlier on. Learning to read comes in steps, this sequential order is key to the organization of the written language and a great indicator for the student's ability to read. It is important to know the differences and what order is best for beginner readers. As an intervention teacher, my entire curriculum is based upon the part to whole method. This explicit method begins with the simplest form of sound, phonemes, and words its way up to three letter blends and special vowel combinations that will be needed to compose words.
