Report
Social Welfare Policy at the End of the 20th Century and Beginning of the 21st Century as it relates to economic inequality and US Prisons. The end of the 20 th century and the beginning of the 21 st century illustrated significant advancements to address the prevailing economic inequalities and incarceration among minors. The article of interest is a study by Schulman (2019 ), which states that imprisonment and incarceration peaked in 2012, with approximately 1 in every 100 adults in prison or jail. The country also experienced increased economic inequality during this period, with an ever-widening gap between the poor and the rich ( Schulman, 2019 ). Notably, the most affected population can be termed people living in the suburbs, rural areas, and members of ethnic minority groups ( Schulman, 2019 ). Furthermore, data from this study illustrates the need to treat all people as equals despite their socioeconomic backgrounds to foster equity and unity in delivering human services ( Schulman, 2019 ). A study of interest related to this week’s reading is the article by Strine Jr (2021 ), which illustrates the need for collaboration among crucial governance stakeholders to foster fairness and equity among all citizens. Nonetheless, the study compares to the readings, describing how the country can eliminate racial and ethical discrimination by fostering equity and equality in public and social services access. Notably, the study illustrates that the corporate governance system has failed to deliver to the citizens and has negatively contributed to widespread inequalities among the general population ( Strine Jr, 2021 ). The predominant contrast is that the study does not primarily focus on economic inequalities or discrimination in the judicial system as it contributes to increased imprisonment and incarceration of citizens, with blacks being the most affected.
