Discussion 2
Title IX is a federal law enacted as part of the Education Amendments of 1972. The main aim of
the law was to protect students, educational professionals, and any individual working in an
educational institution against sexual discrimination, especially in educational programs and
activities financed through federal assistance (GCU, 2021, pg. 1). The law covers public and
private schools, colleges, and universities. The law is essential in defining the rules and
regulations governing sexual harassment and violence in the institution. It mandates the
development of guidelines to protect against and support students who have faced sexual
harassment violence.
As a student, I receive several benefits from Title IX. Firstly, I am protected against
discrimination. The law ensures that students cannot be discriminated against based on sex,
gender, or sexual orientation (GCU, 2021, pg. 1). As a student, I can freely participate in
university education. Secondly, the law protects me from sexual harassment. Title IX requires all
educational institutions to implement initiatives and develop proactive measures to prevent
sexual harassment and violence (GCU, 2021). The law requires all institutions to establish
policies for identifying and reporting cases of sexual harassment and violence perpetrated against
any member of the institutions, especially children, whether in or out of the institution. Thirdly,
Title IX ensures that I get justice for any violation (GCU, 2021, pg. 1). The law requires the
institution to respond promptly when a student or staff reports a case of sexual harassment.
Thirdly, as a student, I receive support if I ever become a victim of sexual violence. This law
provides victim students receive counseling, medical services, and academic accommodation
support.

Hello Leah, I hope you are doing well. I love your discussion and presentation. Firstly, your
explanation of Title IX is on point and properly guides a student in understanding the law defined
in the lecture. Title IX is an important piece of law for students and any individual working in an
academic institution, as it protects against sexual discrimination and any form of sexual violence,
especially in institutions that receive federal funding (GCU, 2021). It is crucial to note that more
than seventy percent of education institutions in the US, whether private or public, receive
federal funding in different ways, especially in sports and co-curricular activities (GCU, 2021).
As students, we benefit immensely from the law. Title IX ensures we can fulfill our student
responsibilities and work towards academic achievements without fear of sexual discrimination.
The law mandates that any institution we decide to seek our studies from develop programs and
initiatives to protect us against sexual harassment and sexual violence. I agree that, as online
students, we also benefit from the law as it protects us against unwanted sexual communication.
We are protected from individuals who may express indecent conversation online.
