Hello Professor and Classmates, Part One: Privacy is one of the constitutional rights that may be restricted within prisons. Prison administrators argue that limiting privacy is crucial for maintaining security and preventing illegal activities (Fareed & Yassin, 2022). Through close monitoring of inmate activities and interactions, prison staff can detect and deter potential threats to safety and order. I think that this is fair, these prisoners have broken the law, and they should not have privacy rights. The restriction of incarcerated persons’ rights within correctional facilities is considered fair due to the legitimate penological interests of prisons. By imposing certain limitations on incarcerated individuals, prisons can effectively maintain an environment that is conducive to achieving these objectives. The restriction of rights is justified as a means to protect the well-being of both the inmates and the public (Bilotta & Dawson, 2021). Part Two: Jails, typically operated by local governments, function as a short-term holding facilities for individuals awaiting trial or convicted of minor offenses (Doe, 2022). Prisons, long-term correctional institutions are managed by federal or state governments. They house individuals who have been convicted of serious crimes and are sentenced to longer periods of incarceraction. The issue of reoffenders is a significant concern within the criminal justice system. To address the issue of reoffenders, the criminal justice system has employed various approaches, including punishment, rehabilitation, supervision, and treatment. Thomas’s (2018) research documents that punishment aims to deter individuals from engaging in criminal behavior through penalties such as imprisonment or fines. On the other hand, rehabilitation focuses on addressing the underlying factors that contribute to criminal behavior. A comprehensive study found that treatments like vocational training programs offered in correctional facilities significantly reduces the likelihood of reoffending. The issue of reoffenders is closely intertwined with social justice, particularly concerning racial inequalities within the criminal justice system. Certain racial and ethnic groups experience higher rates of reoffending compared to others. Understanding the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs, including vocational training, substance abuse treatment, and mental health counseling, is vital in ensuring successful
