MGS350 – CANADIAN BUISNESS LAW
TEST #1
When you watched the Dragons’ Den video (link in Week #1 folder in Course
Documents) you saw that Levi Roots was charismatic and engaging. He had a plan
and could articulate his plan to the Dragons. In addition to being asked about the order
for his spicy sauce, he was asked about the legality of his operation (re food safety
licensing). Banks, investors, and customers want to know that the businesses they are
working with/buying from operate legally, ethically, and more increasingly, align with
their social justice and sustainable views. With this in mind, the 4 Tests will centre
around a company you will imagine for Test #1. All 4 Tests, and the CSR assignment, are completed in pairs (group of 2) and you will
work with the same partner throughout. You may choose your own partner. You may
not work by yourself. You and your partner will create an Adobe Creative Cloud Express (“Adobe”) web page
for Test #1, and then for Tests #2-4, and the CSR Assignment, you will add to your
existing web page from Test #1 (so you will only create one Adobe web page, and just
add to it for each subsequent Test). For the CSR Assignment and Tests #3 and 4, you
and your partner will also have a ten-minute discussion with me about the law. We are
going to try to replicate what it would be like for you running/working at your company
making a pitch to the Dragons – not about the product you are producing/selling, but
about how your company follows the law, how you understand risk and how you intend
to operate ethically and sustainably. DETAILS FOR TEST #1
DUE: before class Tuesday May 17
SUBMIT: email to
kerri.knudsen@senecacollege.ca
(do not post to
Learn@Seneca)
PARTNERS: please email me who your partner is by noon on Thursday May 12
Using Adobe, you and your partner will create a web page that identifies the following
information:
1.
You and your partner will imagine a company (you cannot use a real company)
2.
You will identify what your company will produce and/or sell (not a service) (1
mark)
3.
You will pick a name for your company (1 mark) 4.
You will pick a logo (you can choose an existing company’s logo, like Nike’s
swish; you just have to identify which company’s logo it is in brackets or at the
bottom of your web page) (1 mark) 5.
You will identify where your company is located, including which city, whether it is
a brick-and-mortar store or only online (1 mark)
6.
You will identify which one of you is the owner and which one of you is the
employee (there is no advantage or disadvantage to either ☺
) (1 mark)

your business can use to help avoid litigation, and explain how each of these

appealing than the litigation process (3 marks) 10.

creative – add pictures (there are lots of free ones) (5 marks for creativity) EXAMPLE
●
Here is a web page I created for Tina’s Candy Bar:
https://express.adobe.com/page/XvgokSeDgWqit/
●
You cannot use the same words/examples that I used in Tina’s Candy Bar or
specific examples discussed in class
●
Please also note, my Tina’s Candy Bar example does not include how Tina will
avoid litigation and why an alternative dispute resolution process is preferrable …
if I included that in my example that would give away the answer 😁
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALL 4 TESTS AND THE CSR ASSIGNMENT
●
You and your partner will work together to create the web page and answer all
the questions
●
Please do not simply divide-up the questions between each other – work
together to answer them
●
If one partner does not fully contribute, then the partner who does not contribute
will receive zero
●
If one partner does all the work and submits the Adobe web page identifying that
both partners completed it, this is a violation of Seneca’s Academic Integrity
Policy
●
Please ensure that you alert me to any problems in advance and not after the
Test is completed STEPS TO TAKE …
1.
Pick a partner
2.
One student email me who your partner is by noon on Thursday May 12
