Leadership Style Assessment Rebecca Myers
HA405 Unit 9
Assignment
Professor Murray
To begin, I believe my leadership style would be transformational because this leadership
style aligns with many characteristics that I possess. Typically, these leaders are enthusiastic and passionate and can inspire positive changes. These leaders focus on helping all members of the group succeed by providing them with guidance and support needed, which inspires loyalty and dedication as well as working hard and good performance. Both leaders and followers in this style can achieve higher levels of moral and motivation. Additionally, these leaders keep open lines of communication and encourage creativity of their followers to share new ideas. Also, they
have excellent communication skills and can articulate a clear vision to their followers. Other characteristics include: authenticity, emotional intelligence, encouragement/empowerment, self-
awareness, supportiveness, as well as willingness to take accountability and responsibility.
In general, weaknesses can relate to a leadership style or to specific skill sets. Currently, one of my weaknesses is insecurity or low self-confidence. I am not great at speaking publicly and I become nervous or anxious. I tend to become sweaty or my voice gets shaky, which brings about poor presentation skills from stuttering or poor vocabulary while choosing to use words such as “um”, “basically”, or “you know”. I have enough self-awareness to see where I need to improve and I must develop enough self-confidence to know that I will be able to improve. Furthermore, this is something I need to continuously work on and can improve by learning how to believe in myself, as well as becoming more confident in myself and my decisions in order to portray such confidence when I'm in an uncomfortable situation. Another weakness would be my
compassion and empathy for others, but this can also be considered a strength. It is only considered a weakness when it becomes too much and can be misconstrued as being overly caring, kind, or sensitive or perceived as being weak. However, learning the appropriate balance
of these traits brings strength and contributes to success. Understanding the balance means learning when to stand firm and when to draw the line by creating proper boundaries.
In conclusion, to develop into an ethical and effective healthcare leader, one must improve their skills. Great teams are built when leaders understand the strengths and weaknesses of themselves and their team. It is important for leaders to recognize weaknesses in order to create new strengths or develop new leadership styles through consistent practice and motivation
to learn. In order to overcome weaknesses, it is important to identify the weakness, implement improvement strategies, ask for feedback, make or apply the adjustments, and evaluate progress. Leaders set examples and standards, while also encouraging and working alongside their team. Good leaders are those who continuously learn and grow in their own leadership style, since one must be a good learner to be a good leader.
